- A 5Ps approach to teaching and e-learning sustainability: the case of Universidade AbertaPublication . Mapar, Mahsa; Nicolau, Paula Bacelar; Dias, Marco; Ferreira, Célia; Manuelito, Helena; Martins, Rute; Martinho, Ana Paula; Pereira, Pedro; Simão, João; Trindade, Jorge; Fernandes, Paula Vaz; Caeiro, Sandra
- An on-line teacher training course on education for sustainability: assessment of open (mooc) and closed versions of the coursePublication . Caeiro, Sandra; Paz, João; Carmo, MárioThis paper reports the experience of a first edition of an on-line teacher training course on education for sustainability both for open (MOOC) and closed versions, and the respective assessment. The course was implemented by the Portuguese Distance Learning University (Universidade Aberta – UAb) under a protocol with the General Secretariat of Education and Science of the Portuguese State in an Open EdX platform (NAU). The results show that the planning, preparation of own materials suitable for the target audience and the validation of this type of open/massive and certified closed courses by different actors, before the course taking place is fundamental. It was also confirmed by the positive participation and feedback from the participants. In addition, the collaborative component in both course versions were fundamental to ensure success in this type of training actions. Differences in both versions were discussed as well as recommendations for future editions.
- Applicaton of Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) for analyzing sandy coast dynamics in Essaouira, MoroccoPublication . Khouz, Abdellah; Trindade, Jorge; Oliveira, Sérgio; El Bchari, F.; Bougadir, BlaidCoastlines change research plays a crucial role in understanding the evolution and ensuring effective risk management. This is essential for minimizing impacts on the environment and society. Our study aims to assess the coastal dynamics of sandy systems in Essaouira. By employing advanced techniques such as DSAS and GIS, we aim to analyze shoreline changes, erosion rates, and susceptibility to sand movement. The insights gained from our investigation into the sandy coastal system will provide valuable input for making informed decisions regarding territorial management.
- Aquisição de dados sobre a dinâmica de praias em diversas escalas temporais: exemplos no litoral da EstremaduraPublication . Trindade, Jorge; Pereira, Ana Ramos; Metrogos, Ricardo
- Assessing circularity in the agri-food sector: a case studyPublication . Scandurra, Federica; Salomone, Roberta; Caeiro, Sandra; Gulotta, Teresa Maria; Sandra Caeiro2The agri-food sector (AFS) faces challenges in providing affordable and healthy food for an increasing population. In this context, Circular Economy (CE) has gained interest as an approach to drive the food system to sustainability. However, circularity does not always lead to sustainability. The lack of a defined set of metrics to monitor CE in the sector makes it relevant to select assessment approaches that capture CE's contribution to sustainability. For this reason, the present study aims to support the dairy cooperative Fattoria della Piana, a best case of CE, in assessing its circular strategies. The study links Life cycle assessment (LCA) with circularity indicators collected in the literature. This preliminary study analyses the core of the circular exchanges of the cooperative, represented by the anaerobic digestion and combined heat and power plant (AD-CHP) plant. The study presents a valuable assessment approach for companies in the sector, highlighting the complexity of assessing CE. LCA evidenced valuable credits from avoiding mineral fertilizer and natural gas use thanks to their substitution with the treatment plant's outputs. Indicators suggest its ability to recirculate waste for energy purposes and nutrients. Future studies will explore the overall cooperative' system, evaluating the three dimensions of sustainability.
- Assessing portuguese healthcare professionals' perspectives on climate change-related health policies and national health service readiness: a qualitative studyPublication .
- Assessment of landslide susceptibility in the rocky coast subsystem of Essaouira, MoroccoPublication . Oliveira, Sérgio; Khouz, Abdellah; Trindade, Jorge; Elbchari, Fatima; Bougadir, Blaid; Garcia, Ricardo; Jadoud, Mourad
- Assessment of sediment contamination in an impacted estuary: differential effects and adaptations of sentinel organisms and implications for biomonitoringPublication . Costa, Pedro M.; Gonçalves, C.; Martins, M.; Rodrigo, Ana; Carreira, S.; Costa, Maria Helena; Caeiro, SandraEstuarine pollution is reflected in the concentration of toxicants in sediments, depending on their geochemical properties, since sediments trap substances from the water column, either dissolved or bound to suspended matter. However, determining risk of sediment contaminants to biota has many constraints. For such reason, integrative approaches are keystone. Taking the Sado estuary (SW Portugal) as a case study, contrasted to a reference estuary (the Mira) within the same geographical location, the present study aimed at integrating sediment contamination with the effects and responses to pollutants in distinct benthic organisms with commercial and ecological value.
