- Business intelligence and of transformational leadershipPublication . Nobre, Ângela Lacerda; Duarte, Rogério; Jacquinet, Marc; Pimentel, Fernando; Silva, MariaThe evolution of the twenty-first century has witnessed the raise of management sciences and the sophistication of its tools and methodologies. A critical part of such evolution has been the development of computing science technologies. Under this setting, Quality Management Systems have developed as a fundamental bridge between information systems and the strategic and operational sides of both businesses and of public institutions. The strategic power of information management has been configured as the field of Business Intelligence, which captures the dynamic circuits of business process modelling and of the decision-making flows.
- Comunidades sustentaveis, governança e a grande transiçãoPublication .
- Corporate social responsabilityPublication . Jacquinet, Marc; Nobre, Ângela Lacerda; Duarte, Rogério; Pimentel, Fernando; Silva, MariaThe context of the digital economy and of the value systems that are prevalent in contemporary societies imply that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is at the core of business strategies, either as a genuine and results-seeking attitude or else as a reductive communication and marketing approach to the market. CSR functions as the other side of the coin of Quality Systems, as both share the same basic philosophy and working paradigm.
- Extending the social tradition on organisational learning: ethics, gender and citizenshipPublication . Nobre, Ângela Lacerda; Duarte, Rogério; Jacquinet, MarcPurpose – to highlight the controversial and potentially rich dilemmas of contemporaneity in organizational settings, including the context of the knowledge economy, the need to promote knowledge management, the structuring role of organizational learning, and the enabling and powerful framing, which emerges from the ethical, gender and citizenship dimensions. Design – an exploratory theoretical inquiry, which acknowledges the importance of capturing the philosophical argumentation behind different epistemic options and schools of thought, including the possibility to understand the empowering potential of concepts such as social innovation. Findings – the acknowledgement of the role of signification is highlighted in a crucial way: according to the social tradition perspective, there are two central items that illustrate the process through which meaning-making emerges spontaneously in human spheres of action, the first one is language use and the second one is the participation in social practices. Practical Implications – ethics, gender and citizenship are direct entry spaces for the understanding of the complexity of how humans organise themselves and create and share knowledge in order to optimise their action. Originality – the full power of human thought and action is achieved when there is enough individual and social motivational alignment in order to promote the best options available; such options do emerge and succeed as a matter-of-fact evidence of the creative and interpretative capacity, which finds in organisations one of the best instances for such human development.
- From CRM 1.0 to CRM 2.0 and mobile CRM: a case study of European recruitment agenciesPublication . Gregório, Tânia; Isaías, PedroWhile companies are becoming more focused on customers and personalisation, mobile technologies and Web 2.0 have been pushing companies to evolve in this area by offering solutions to help them to approach their customers. The present research is focused on how Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems are used, at a European level, by recruiting companies to assist candidates in finding a satisfactory job. More specifically, this paper presents a framework to identify how CRM 2.0 and mobile CRM (mCRM) can help candidates to find jobs in a personalised manner. The methodology was based on an exploratory study of European recruitment agencies, using online questionnaires. The results showed that the use of software in recruiting agencies is quite common as is the use of CRM 2.0. With concern to mCRM, their use by the agencies remains shy, leaving this channel's great potential yet to be explored.
- HEI in the context of global citizenshipPublication . Jacquinet, Marc; Nobre, Ângela Lacerda; Duarte, Rogério; Silva, Maria Luisa; Pimentel, FernandoThe last decades have seen an expansion of the application of Quality Systems in the service sectors and in the public service sectors, including in Higher Education Institutions (HEI). Taking into account the fact that educational institutions are the incubators of future societies, it is critical to understand the role played by Quality Systems in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of such sector. HEI replicate or else reject and innovate the basic settings of each society. HEI both repeat and strengthen the social norms, the social conventions and the belief systems of each society or else they renovate and create new operational modes of existence. Global change happens as a result of the cumulative effect of such partial changes.
- Information systems governance and Industry 4.0: epistemology of data and semiotic methodologies of IS in digital ecosystemsPublication . Nobre, Ângela Lacerda; Duarte, Rogério; Jacquinet, MarcContemporary Information Systems management incorporates the need to make explicit the links between semiotics, meaning-making and the digital age. This focus addresses, at its core, pure rationality, that is, the capacity of human interpretation and of human inscription upon reality. Creating the new real, that is the motto. Humans are intrinsically semiotic creatures. Consequently, semiotics is not a choice or an option but something that works like a second skin, establishing limits and permeable linkages between: (i) human thought and human's infinite world of imagination; and (ii) human action, with its correspondent infinite world of intentionality, of desire and of unexplored possibilities. Two instances are contrasted as two reading lenses of current business reality: IS governance and industry 4.0. These phenomena correspond to the need to take accountability, transparency and responsibility into account, when designing IS and when using such systems through the ecology of connectivity, Big Data and the Internet of Things. Political, social and cultural dimensions are brought into the equation, when addressing the question of the relevance and adequateness of IS theory and practice to respond to contemporary challenges. The message is that what has already been achieved is but a shadow, a pale vision, of what might be achieved in the age of the new Renaissance.
- Information systems success: measuring wiki implementation success, based on the DeLone & McLean modelPublication . Alexandre, João; Isaías, PedroIn all the organizations, the information systems should see the success of its implementation measured. This paper tests the DeLone & McLean (2003) information systems success model using a wiki implementation. From the model, the measures to be studied were elaborated in diverse questions having a 6-point Likert scale for the answers. Several identifiable validation relationships in the proposed model, on which the study has been based, were summarised as seven hypotheses of relationships between the variables. The paper uses the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) technique to test the referred hypotheses. The model has proved its validity and suitability for the measurement of web 2.0 tools, and the model explained an amount exceeding 75% the results obtained. The results show that the satisfaction of the user is a strong inducer of liquid benefits, at individual and organizational level, in line with other studies in the literature.
- A model for the Portuguese online retailers adoption of Web 2.0 toolsPublication . Coelho, Fábio; Isaías, PedroThe Internet has become a major sales platform, assuming a growing importance in increasing the economic growth of a company. Therefore it is of great importance to analyse the incorporation of Web 2.0 tools and their relation to the website success and its design. Through a systematic exploration of the 36 most visited Portuguese e-commerce websites, according to the ranking published by Marktest, information was gathered about the adoption of Web 2.0 tools by these online retailers. Results indicate that the most frequently implemented tools are social networking, Rich Internet Application (RIA), mashups and Really Simple Syndication (RSS feeds). The least often adopted were semantic search, wikis and blogs. Based on these results and those in additional studies, an optimized model of Web 2.0 tools implementation is proposed for online retailers operating in Portugal. In the short term, it is suggested that the retailer should implement easier features which bring quicker success in terms of return on investments, such as social networking, mashups, RSS feeds and tagging, each one of which leads to a specific business benefit. In the medium-to-long term, it is suggested that retailers should adopt RIA-based features and features and podcasts/vodcasts. The adoption of these Web tools must be based on a complete and differentiated set tools.
