- Accessibility challenges in OER and MOOC: MLR analysis considering the pandemic yearsPublication . Ingavélez Guerra, Paola Cristina; Robles-Bykbaev, Vladimir; Teixeira, António; Oton Tortosa, Salvador; Hilera, JoseThe review of state of the art on creating and managing learning resources and accessible Open Educational Resources (OER) and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) is a topic that cannot only consider formal literature. The evidence and lack of a measurement consensus require the inclusion of contextual information, corroborating scientific results with practical experiences. For this reason, this article presents a review of accessibility models, OER and MOOC, considering the gray literature to capture experiences and trying to establish a shared understanding of the terminology commonly used in research on virtual accessibility and its impact on higher education. The bibliographic review relies on analyzing articles and scientific publications related to the topic following the Multivocal Literature Review (MLR) format. The results of this review establish that it is possible to apply accessibility review methodologies with transversal actions in the creation and management of learning resources and MOOCs. The research is related to one of the seventeen sustainable development goals defined by the United Nations to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
- AVASUS’ contributions to promoting lifelong learning in health: toward achieving the SDGs and strengthening global health securityPublication . Romão, Manoel Honório; Dias, Aline de Pinho; Caitano, Alexandre; Batista, Natalia Araujo do Nascimento; Valentim, Janaína Luana Rodrigues da Silva; Oliveira, Eloiza da Silva Gomes de; Lima, Thaísa Góis Farias de Moura Santos; Morgado, Lina; Rêgo, Maria Carmem F. AVASUS provides open educational resources in the health field and has emerged as the third largest platform for massive health education globally, with more than one million students. Among the various learning pathways AVASUS offers, some specifically focus on meeting the educational needs to address public health emergencies and overlooked health contexts. The main argument in this study is that technology mediated lifelong learning in health is an effective strategy for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. This chapter analyzes the pathways related to COVID-19, syphilis, and prison health, focusing on the con tributions towards achieving SDGs 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 16, and 17 and fulfilling the Global Health Security Agenda. Our analysis revealed two key findings. Lifelong learning in health (i) prompts decision-making on public health policies and (ii) contributes towards implementing the SDGs. Ultimately, AVASUS should be recognized as a tool to improve health services and support policy-making
- Building a framework based on european quality standards for prevention and e-learning to evaluate online training courses in preventionPublication . Henriques, Susana; Broughton, Natalie; Teixeira, António; Burkhart, Gregor; Miovský, MichaelPrevention practitioners are required to develop their skills and competencies in response to recent advances in prevention science. It is thus important to develop training programmes which ensure the development of a prevention workforce. Aiming to respond to this need, the Specialised Training Course in Addictions Prevention is based on the European Universal Prevention Curriculum (EUPC) and delivered online. In view of this being the first online course based on the EUPC, the absence of training programmes for prevention practitioners in Portugal, and the significance of international guidelines in these two domains (prevention and online distance learning), it was considered important to create a framework which supports the evaluation and monitoring of the course. This paper presents a framework for the evaluation of the specialised training course in prevention based on two models: the European Drug Prevention Quality Standards, and the adaptation of the European Standards and Guidelines to digital programmes and courses – Considerations for Quality Assurance of E-learning Provision. Given the importance of quality assurance in contemporary society, the framework presented in this paper is a tool that may be useful for evaluating other online distance learning programmes which focus on the professional development of prevention practitioners.
- A competency framework for teaching and learning innovation centers for the 21st Century: anticipating the post-COVID-19 agePublication . Pérez-Sanagustín, Mar; Kotorov, Iouri; Teixeira, António; Mansilla, Maria Fernanda; Broisin, Julien; Alario-Hoyos, Carlos; Jerez, Oscar; Pinto, Maria do Carmo Teixeira; García, Bonni; Delgado Kloos, Carlos; Morales, Miguel; Solarte, Mario; Oliva-Córdova, Luis Magdiel; Gonzalez Lopez, Astrid HelenaDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, most Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the globe moved towards “emergency online education”, experiencing a metamorphosis that advanced their capacities and competencies as never before. Teaching and Learning Centers (TLCs), the internal units that promote sustainable transformations, can play a key role in making this metamorphosis last. Existing models for TLCs have defined the competencies that they could help develop, focusing on teachers’, students’, and managers’ development, but have mislead aspects such as leadership, organizational processes, and infrastructures. This paper evaluates the PROF-XXI framework, which offers a holistic perspective on the competencies that TLCs should develop for supporting deep and sustainable transformations of HEIs. The framework was evaluated with 83 participants from four Latin American institutions and used for analyzing the transformation of their teaching and learning practices during the pandemic lockdown. The result of the analysis shows that the PROF-XXI framework was useful for identifying the teaching and learning competencies addressed by the institutions, their deficiencies, and their strategic changes. Specifically, this study shows that most institutions counted with training plans for teachers before this period, mainly in the competencies of digital technologies and pedagogical quality, but that other initiatives were created to reinforce them, including students’ support actions.

- Development of an application prototype for mobile devices about pregnancy and syphilis in pregnancy as a health education strategPublication . Oliveira, Andressa Cristina Batista de Lacerda; Morgado, Lina; Dias, Aline de Pinho; Caldeira, Ana Katarine de Oliveira; Moura, Ana Beatriz de Medeiros; Oliveira Junior, Mauricio da SilvaSyphilis is a systemic sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. It has chronic evolution and is subject to flare-ups and latency periods when untreated, which can produce the acquired or congenital forms of the disease. It has been acknowledged in 2016 as an epidemic in Brazil. Objective: To identify the information needs of pregnant women regarding syphilis during pregnancy and congenital syphilis, aiming to assist in the development of a technology-mediated educational resource as a strategy to promote health and fight the syphilis epidemic. Methods: The prior knowledge of pregnant women assisted in high-risk prenatal care at the Maternity of Divino Amor in Parnamirim/RN was investigated, in order to identify the information needs of this population and support the development of a prototype of an educational resource in prenatal care services that use technological mediation, education and communication as distance health education strategies. Results: Forty-six pregnant women who demonstrated to have gaps in knowledge about syphilis were assessed with regard to: signs and symptoms of the disease, prevention measures, and vertical transmission. Conclusion: These findings supported the development of a prototype educational resource that intends to be an important source of information for the adoption of preventive health measures, contributing to the learning process of pregnant women, to the improvement of health indicators in this population and the reduction of congenital syphilis cases.
