- Revisão de fraudes bancárias por SMS ou voz, a partir da análise de dados de telefones celulares: uma revisão sistemática de literaturaPublication . Um dos fatores que contribui para o aumento de casos de fraudes por SMS é o baixo custo de aquisição de grandes volumes de mensagens, a confiabilidade (a mensagem chegará ao destinatário) e o fato de não precisar de Internet para chegar até a vítima. Em relação as fraudes financeiras por voz, estas podem ser usadas para persuadir as vítimas a efetuarem transferências bancárias para as contas dos fraudulentos, com a promessa de receber avultadas somas em prémios. A deteção destes tipos de fraudes não é uma tarefa trivial, pois exige a aplicação de técnicas e métodos apropriados dependendo da sua natureza. Assim, neste artigo é apresentada uma Revisão Sistemática de Literatura (RSL) de 2015 a 2020, com o intuito de analisar o estado da arte sobre fraudes bancárias cometidas por SMS ou voz. A RSL permitiu identificar os tipos mais comuns de fraudes bancárias por SMS ou voz, e as respetivas técnicas de deteção.
- Exploring a multidisciplinary assessment of organisational maturity in business vontinuity: a perspective and future research outlookPublication . Russo, Nelson; São Mamede, Henrique; Reis, Leonilde; Branco, Frederico; Martins, JoséIn a competitive business landscape heavily reliant on information and communication technology, organisations must be prepared to address disruptions in their business operations. Business continuity management involves effective planning for the swift reestablishment of business processes in the short term. However, there are still obstacles to implementing business continuity plans, which can be justified by various factors. The purpose of this study is to present the perspectives and future research paths based on a systematic literature review from the peer-reviewed literature published from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2021. This systematic literature review adheres to the guidelines established by evidence-based software engineering and leverages the Parsifal online tool. The primary research results identify and establish connections between the common components and activities of business continuity management as defined in international standards and frameworks to identify gaps in the existing knowledge. These findings will contribute to the development of a framework that provides a practical approach applicable to organisations of all sizes, taking into account each aspect of business continuity management, with a particular emphasis on information and communication technology systems. This paper’s contribution lies in offering insights from a systematic literature review regarding the strategic principles for designing and implementing a business continuity plan, along with a comprehensive overview of related research. Furthermore, it presents a path forward to guide future research efforts aimed at addressing the gaps in the literature concerning continuity planning.
- A prototype for an intelligent water management system for household usePublication . For it, new measures and approaches are urgently needed. Digital technologies and tools can play an essential role in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of current water management approaches. Therefore, a solution is proposed and validated, given the limited pres- ence of models or technological architectures in the literature to support intelligent water manage- ment systems for domestic use. It is based on a layered architecture, fully designed to meet the needs of households and to do so through the adoption of technologies such as Internet-of-Things and cloud computing. By developing a prototype and using it as a use case for testing purposes, we have concluded the positive impact of using such a solution. Considering that is a first contribution to the overcome the problem, some issues will be addressed in future work, namely, data and device security and energy and traffic optimisation issues, among several others.

- BHiveSense: sn integrated information system architecture for sustainable remote monitoring and management of apiaries based on IoT and microservicesPublication . Cota, Duarte; São Mamede, Henrique; Branco, Frederico; Martins, JoséPrecision Beekeeping, a field of Precision Agriculture, is an apiary management strategy based on monitoring honeybee colonies to promote more sustainable resource usage and maximise productivity. The approach related to Precision Beekeeping is based on methodologies to mitigate the stress associated with human intervention in the colonies and the waste of resources. These goals are achieved by supporting the intervention and managing the beekeeper’s timely and appropriate action at the colony’s level. In recent years, the growth of IoT (Internet-of-Things) in Precision Agriculture has spurred several proposals to contribute to the paradigm of Precision Beekeeping, built on different technical concepts and with different production costs. This work proposes and describes an information systems architecture concept named BHiveSense, based on IoT and microservices, and different artefacts to demonstrate its concept: (1) a low-cost COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) hive sensing prototype, (2) a REST backend API, (3) a Web application, and (4) a Mobile application. This project delivers a solution for a more integrated and sustainable beekeeping activity. Our approach stresses that by adopting microservices and a REST architecture, it is possible to deal with long-standing problems concerning interoperability, scalability, agility, and maintenance issues, delivering an efficient beehive monitoring system.
- Combining low-code development with ChatGPT to novel no-code approaches: a focus-group studyPublication . There are a certain number of vendors with such solutions. Still, in most Western countries, there is a clear need for the existence of greater quantities of certified and experienced professionals to work with those tools. This means that companies with more resources can attract and maintain those professionals, whilst other smaller organizations must rely on an endless search for this scarce resource. We will present and validate a model designed to transform ChatGPT into a low-code developer, addressing the demand for a more skilled human resource solution. This innovative tool underwent rigorous validation via a focus group study, engaging a panel of highly experienced experts. Their invaluable insights and feedback on the proposed model were systematically gathered and meticulously analysed.

By synthesizing a comprehensive body of research, this study finds and analyzes the determinants that shape the decision-making process about cloud technology adoption. Security, cost-effectiveness, scalability, interoperability, and regulatory compliance are examined across educational institutions and organizational contexts. Additionally, socio-economic, political, and technological factors specific to each context are explored to provide a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with cloud computing adoption. The review reveals commonalities and differences in adoption drivers and barriers between education and organizational environments, offering insights into tailored strategies for effective implementation. This research contributes to the existing literature by shedding light on the multifaceted nature of cloud adoption and offering valuable guidance for educators, organizational leaders, policymakers, and technology providers looking to use cloud computing to enhance operations and services.
- Risk compliance and master data management in banking: a novel BCBS 239 compliance action-plan proposalPublication . Martins, José; São Mamede, Henrique; Correia, JoséFor some years now, master data has become extremely relevant to business success and continuity in an increasingly competitive and global business environment. The banking sector is one example of how the implementation of well-structured and designed master data management policies and initiatives is crucial for reaching positive results. One of the areas in which banks need to ensure extremely fruitful master data management approaches and data governance procedures is when dealing with risk-related data, as it not only ensures accurate and well-supported management and decision-making, but also because banks are required to do so by imposed regulations, such as the BCBS 239. Drawing on a DSR methodology supported research project, where banking and IS-related expertise was continuously merged with existing theoretical knowledge on MDM and BCBS 239 related topics, and a permanent focus on the technical and functional complexity associated with implementing master data management and well-established data governance procedures that ensure regulatory compliance, we propose a novel, six-phase action plan that will allow banks to ensure compliance with BCBS 239 and, consequently, ensure efficient and effective risk data management and reporting.This work was supported by National Funds through the Portuguese funding agency, FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, within project LA/P/0063/2020
- Exploração do high fidelity para desenvolvimento de jogos em mundos virtuais imersivos multi utilizadorPublication . Esta tecnologia permite criar mundos virtuais cujas formas de interligação, controlo e interação tiram partido de uma Interface de Programação de Aplicações em JavaScript. Através do caso prático de desenvolvimento de um protótipo de jogo educativo simples, descrevemos a tecnologia High Fidelity, incluindo o tipo de scripts, a arquitetura inerente e as suas características de desenvolvimento e utilização. Destacamos as dificuldades inerentes ao estado atual da plataforma, em constante reformulação e algumas peculiaridades.
