Romão, Manoel Honório; Dias, Aline de Pinho; Caitano, Alexandre; Batista, Natalia Araujo do Nascimento; Valentim, Janaína Luana Rodrigues da Silva; Oliveira, Eloiza da Silva Gomes de; Lima, Thaísa Góis Farias de Moura Santos; Morgado, Lina; Rêgo, Maria Carmem F. D.; Oliveira, Carlos Alberto Pereira de; Coutinho, Karilany Dantas; Medeiros, Kelson C.; Bonfim, Marilyn; Melo, Ronaldo S.; Gusmão, Cristine Martins Gomes de; Lacerda, Juciano; Melo, Marcella da Rocha; Gallego, Almudena; Valentim, RicardoThe Virtual Learning Environment of the Brazilian Health System (AVASUS) was developed by the Laboratory for Technological Innovation in Health (LAIS) and the Secretariat of Distance Education (SEDIS) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in partnership with Brazil’s Ministry of Health (MoH). AVASUS provides open educational resources in the health field and has emerged as the third largest platform for massive health education globally, with more than one million students. Among the various learning pathways AVASUS offers, some specifically focus on meeting the educational needs to address public health emergencies and overlooked health contexts. The main argument in this study is that technology mediated lifelong learning in health is an effective strategy for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. This chapter analyzes the pathways related to COVID-19, syphilis, and prison health, focusing on the con tributions towards achieving SDGs 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 16, and 17 and fulfilling the Global Health Security Agenda. Our analysis revealed two key findings. Lifelong learning in health (i) prompts decision-making on public health policies and (ii) contributes towards implementing the SDGs. Ultimately, AVASUS should be recognized as a tool to improve health services and support policy-making

- Educators by proxy: emergency remote teaching and learning from the voice of parentsPublication . Seabra, Filipa; Abelha, Marta; Aires, Luísa; Teixeira, AntónioIntroduction: The COVID-19 pandemic led educational systems worldwide to transpose activities planned for face-to-face education to mediated contexts - through what is known as Emergency Remote Teaching and Learning (ERTL). This posed unprecedented challenges to schools, teachers, families, and students. In this context, it was relevant to describe and understand how parents perceived this process, including what challenges to themselves and their children they faced and what advantages they acknowledged in the process. The present study focuses on Portuguese parents’ views on this process. Methods: Data were gathered in April and May 2020 through an online questionnaire answered by 184 parents of preschool, basic, and secondary education students (ages 3–18). The present paper presents data from open questions analyzed by deductive and inductive content analysis using MaxQDA. Results and discussion: Results evidence three overarching themes: equity, parental labor, and the meaning of school. Parents reveal substantial difficulties juggling the role of proxy educator and parent and point to inequalities - including those concerning very young children, children with disabilities or learning difficulties, students enrolled in professional education, families with insufficient access to technologies, and parents working from home. The school is portrayed as a crucial environment for development, a designated space for learning and caretaking, but also a relational and emotional context. Despite this scenario, parents acknowledge ERTL as having positive aspects and as the possible outlet to keep education going even in extreme situations.

- Online communication and assessment practices during the Covid Pandemic: a study of the portuguese higher education students’ perceptionsPublication . Morgado, Lina; Paz, João; Pereira, Hugo; Loureiro, Ana; Messias, Inês; Cardoso, Paula; Paiva, Ana Maria Videira; Runa, Ana; Seco, Carlos; Mendes, Elizabete; Vieira, Márcia de Freitas; Oliveira, Nuno RicardoThis proposal is part of an ongoing research and presents the results on the perceptions and pedagogical practices experienced by students from various higher education degrees in Portuguese higher education institutions, during the period of social confinement determined by the Portuguese Government, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The main objective of the general research was to understand how Higher Education faculty and students experienced the digital transition to emergency education and the pedagogical practices adopted during the period. The research was based on a mixed methods approach and, in order to address the research objectives and describe the pedagogical practices implemented, specific instruments were developed for data collection. A questionnaire was developed, aimed at students, and interviews aimed at both students and faculty, focusing on technological and pedagogical dimensions, as well as the assessment of the experience. Data collection was carried out after the first lockdown, at the end of the first semester of 2020, and took place in eight higher education institutions. In this paper we will present a preliminary analysis of Questionnaire results related to two dimensions: online communication and assessment.
