- Augmented reality for improving clinical decision skillsPublication . Jorge, Nelson; Gaspar, Pedro; Morgado, LinaAugmented reality (AR) is a technology that allows a computurized virtual object to be overlaid directed or indirectely in a really environment in a real time (Azuma, 1997; Zhou, Duh & Billinghurst, 2008) and differs from virtual reality (VR) since irt combines the real world with virtual objects, supplementing the reality instead of substituting, making the bridge between virtual and real world in a perfect way (Chang, Morreale & Medicherla, 2010).
- AVASUS’ contributions to promoting lifelong learning in health: toward achieving the SDGs and strengthening global health securityPublication . Romão, Manoel Honório; Dias, Aline de Pinho; Caitano, Alexandre; Batista, Natalia Araujo do Nascimento; Valentim, Janaína Luana Rodrigues da Silva; Oliveira, Eloiza da Silva Gomes de; Lima, Thaísa Góis Farias de Moura Santos; Morgado, Lina; Rêgo, Maria Carmem F. AVASUS provides open educational resources in the health field and has emerged as the third largest platform for massive health education globally, with more than one million students. Among the various learning pathways AVASUS offers, some specifically focus on meeting the educational needs to address public health emergencies and overlooked health contexts. The main argument in this study is that technology mediated lifelong learning in health is an effective strategy for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. This chapter analyzes the pathways related to COVID-19, syphilis, and prison health, focusing on the con tributions towards achieving SDGs 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 16, and 17 and fulfilling the Global Health Security Agenda. Our analysis revealed two key findings. Lifelong learning in health (i) prompts decision-making on public health policies and (ii) contributes towards implementing the SDGs. Ultimately, AVASUS should be recognized as a tool to improve health services and support policy-making
- Building a framework based on european quality standards for prevention and e-learning to evaluate online training courses in preventionPublication . Henriques, Susana; Broughton, Natalie; Teixeira, António; Burkhart, Gregor; Miovský, MichaelPrevention practitioners are required to develop their skills and competencies in response to recent advances in prevention science. It is thus important to develop training programmes which ensure the development of a prevention workforce. Aiming to respond to this need, the Specialised Training Course in Addictions Prevention is based on the European Universal Prevention Curriculum (EUPC) and delivered online. In view of this being the first online course based on the EUPC, the absence of training programmes for prevention practitioners in Portugal, and the significance of international guidelines in these two domains (prevention and online distance learning), it was considered important to create a framework which supports the evaluation and monitoring of the course. This paper presents a framework for the evaluation of the specialised training course in prevention based on two models: the European Drug Prevention Quality Standards, and the adaptation of the European Standards and Guidelines to digital programmes and courses – Considerations for Quality Assurance of E-learning Provision. Given the importance of quality assurance in contemporary society, the framework presented in this paper is a tool that may be useful for evaluating other online distance learning programmes which focus on the professional development of prevention practitioners.

- Development of an application prototype for mobile devices about pregnancy and syphilis in pregnancy as a health education strategPublication . Oliveira, Andressa Cristina Batista de Lacerda; Morgado, Lina; Dias, Aline de Pinho; Caldeira, Ana Katarine de Oliveira; Moura, Ana Beatriz de Medeiros; Oliveira Junior, Mauricio da SilvaSyphilis is a systemic sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. It has chronic evolution and is subject to flare-ups and latency periods when untreated, which can produce the acquired or congenital forms of the disease. It has been acknowledged in 2016 as an epidemic in Brazil. Objective: To identify the information needs of pregnant women regarding syphilis during pregnancy and congenital syphilis, aiming to assist in the development of a technology-mediated educational resource as a strategy to promote health and fight the syphilis epidemic. Methods: The prior knowledge of pregnant women assisted in high-risk prenatal care at the Maternity of Divino Amor in Parnamirim/RN was investigated, in order to identify the information needs of this population and support the development of a prototype of an educational resource in prenatal care services that use technological mediation, education and communication as distance health education strategies. Results: Forty-six pregnant women who demonstrated to have gaps in knowledge about syphilis were assessed with regard to: signs and symptoms of the disease, prevention measures, and vertical transmission. Conclusion: These findings supported the development of a prototype educational resource that intends to be an important source of information for the adoption of preventive health measures, contributing to the learning process of pregnant women, to the improvement of health indicators in this population and the reduction of congenital syphilis cases.

- Supporting emergency remote teaching due to Coronavirus pandemic: problem solving group at ICUDDRPublication . Henriques, Susana; Eyles, Cary HopkinsBACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for all and has had a particular effect on university-level educators. Although the use of technologies in education is recognized as critical in developing transversal skills and preparing students for the needs of modern society, the COVID-19 pandemic crisis stressed the relevance of the digital medium. At the same time, the emergency hastened significant changes to universities’ main roles – teaching, learning, and evaluation. AIMS: In this article, we present research conducted by a Problem-Solving Group, a virtual community of practice formed by the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR) to support educators in addressing the challenges of the pandemic crisis. METHODS: Based on a problem-solving methodology, the virtual community of practice Problem-Solving Group) provided synchronous group sessions and asynchronous individual support. The resulting analysis and discussion are based on the problemsolving methodology. PARTICIPANTS: Twenty-two educators, including two facilitators, attended six virtual problem-solving sessions between September and December 2020. RESULTS: Participants were committed educators who shared their experiences, challenges, and best practices. The problem-solving methodology was effective in identifying critical areas in remote emergency university-level teaching. CONCLUSIONS: The results stress the importance of creating a common space where educators with similar problems and difficulties can share ideas, experiences, and best practices. The virtual community of practice was effective, although it requires more extensive development and research.
