Num mundo em constante mudança e com o surgimento da Internet abriram-se portas para uma sociedade digital em rede. Neste contexto, surgiram novos paradigmas, modelos, processos de comunicação educacional e novos ambientes de aprendizagem virtuais. Este artigo reflete acerca do papel que as comunidades virtuais de aprendizagem podem ter no desenvolvimento de Competências-chave para o estudante e cidadão do século XXI. A partir da unidade curricular de Estatística Aplicada às Ciências do Consumo, do Mestrado em Ciências do Consumo Alimentar, da Universidade Aberta, Portugal, procedemos a uma análise que se centra nas interações estabelecidas nos fóruns de discussão, tendo como referência o Modelo Pedagógico Virtual® da Universidade Aberta e o modelo Community of Inquiry. Os resultados revelam que as comunidades virtuais de aprendizagem podem ter efeitos muito positivos no desenvolvimento de competências-chave, tais como a comunicação, colaboração, pensamento crítico, criatividade e autonomia.
An ever-changing world and the dawn of the internet, opened the gates to a digitally networked society in which new paradigms, models, educational communication processes and new virtual learning scenarios have surfaced. This paper investigates the role that virtual learning communities can play in the development of key competences for students and citizens of the 21st century, considering the fifteen students in the course unit of Applied Statistics of the MSc degree in Food Consumer Sciences da Universidade Aberta, Portugal. The analysis focus on the interactions on he virtual classroom discussion forums having as a reference the Virtual Pedagogical Model of the Universidade Aberta and the Community of Inquiry model. The results show that virtual learning communities, can have positive effects on the development of key competences as communication, collaboration, critical thought, creativity, and autonomy.
