- Reflections on distance education management in Brazil: case studies on the development of didatic material in distance education in corporate universitiesPublication . Naime, Eduardo Harb; Afonso, Ana Paula; Vieira, Márcia de FreitasThe development of didactic material in Distance Education has been discussed in an incipient way in academic circles, through research focused on design models, and ways of using new technologies - videos, blogs, and social networks among others - with greater emphasis on public universities, thus neglecting the corporate universities. This paper presents the research conducted to identify the Management Model for the Development of Didactic Material in Distance Education adopted in Corporate Universities in state-owned companies in Brazil. The research carried out is based on a qualitative approach, focused on the analysis of multiple case studies. The data collection used the literature review and the online questionnaire for the coordinators/managers of the selected corporate universities. The data analysis leads to the conclusion that the 3 universities under study use the open and contextualised instructional design models, but do not use the ADDIE model in the development of the courseware. As for the model of management of the development of the teaching material, it was concluded that it is closed and defined by the company. This research has triggered new questions that need to be answered: i) what difficulties prevent the application of the ADDIE model in the development of instructional design in Corporate Universities?, ii) what future for corporate universities in Brazil's education system?
- Models and practices of eLearning use at the Catholic University of Mozambique: a case studyPublication . Salite, Maria; Afonso, Ana Paula; Morgado, LinaBearing in mind that the world is increasingly dominated by technology, learning in the online context is gradually accompanying its development regarding the use of learning as a primary factor for distance learning. This poster presents the study conducted to analyze the models and practices of the use of e-learning whose affirmation in the educational system constitutes one of the biggest challenges for Higher Education Institutions, mainly with regard to distance education using platforms as an instrument for learning. To achieve the objectives, the research uses students, tutors, monitors and the online pedagogical Director of the Institute of Distance Education of the Catholic University of Mozambique as the focal point. Through a qualitative approach using questionnaires and interviews, research has as a key element of the use of eLearning in the teaching and learning process. As for the origin of the data, they are merely primary. The results obtained allow us to conclude that the eLearning platform, as well as the interaction tools, are not explored by students, having as the main cause the lack of evaluations such as tests and works and forums that culminates in the lack of incentive for students participation, another factor is the lack of mastery of e-learning platforms, a weak signal from the internet and the lack of knowledge in online teaching, which has as difficulty pointed out the lack of continuous training. Both tutors and students are unaware of the real importance of user interaction tools. It is hoped that the results of this study may demonstrate to students and tutors at the Distance Education Institute of the Catholic University of Mozambique the importance of using Information and Communication Technologies in learning and that they arouse interest in the practice of using eLearning as an indispensable element in distance learning and teaching using eLearning platforms as a medium.

- Impact of digital transformation in teacher training modelsPublication . Afonso, Ana Paula; Morgado, Lina; Roque, LicinioA new reality of teaching and learning through technology is continually on the rise creating the need for governments, organizations, teachers, students, and families to adapt. Students are realizing the need to become more autonomous, parents are having to become more present, and teachers are assuming new roles in virtual education. Although this new era of education is marked by innovation at all levels, most of these changes have not been thoroughly planned or structured, thus creating a difficult experience for all the educational stakeholders. Impact of Digital Transformation in Teacher Training Models conducts a critical discussion on teacher preparedness in the digital transformation of teaching practices. It promotes practitioner reflections on the role of institutional policies, teacher digital literacy, the digital divide, and how the ongoing digital transformation of society will induce the need for a paradigm shift in teacher training models. Covering topics such as emergency remote education, emerging pedagogies, and massive open online courses, this book is an essential resource for policymakers, government officials, education administration, pre-service teachers, educators, researchers, and academicians.
- Mov2EAD. Move to distance education: emergency teaching & digital transformation in higher educationPublication . Morgado, Lina; Paiva, Ana; Paz, João; Loureiro, Ana; Runa, Ana; Afonso, Ana Paula; Seco, Carlos; Pereira, Hugo; Mendes, Elizabeth; Messias, Inês; Vieira, Márcia de Freitas; Rocha, Maria Antonieta; Spilker, Maria João; Oliveira, Nuno Ricardo; Cardoso, PaulaThe project MOv2EAD- Move to Distance Education: Emergency Teaching & Digital Transformation in Higher Education is a project integrated in Laboratory of Distance Education and eLearning (https://lead.uab.pt/mov2ead) started in the heart of the pandemic and with the involvement of 8 Portuguese public and private higher education institutions. Its goal was to understand the experiences of HE teachers and students and the digital transition of face to face teaching to Distance Learning (DL) during the pandemic and post-pandemic period. The results gathered a robust overview of the pandemics experience and relevant indicators to enhance the digital transformation of the HEIs involved. It also helped to develop new inter-institutional cooperation and produced several publication outputs and transformational actions in institutions.
- e-Mentoring: challenges in the development of a modelPublication . Morgado, Lina; Afonso, Ana Paula; Ferret, NathalieInitial and continuous support, such as mentoring (among peers), has been a strategy widely adopted by different distance higher education institutions, namely in the European context, in order to support new students in their academic integration, reduce isolation, facilitate collaboration and create a sense of belonging to a community; thus, this support is provided by students at more advanced levels of training. Not being a new practice, it has evolved over time, inspiring various interpretations of its action and implementation. Assuming to be a crucial factor for student success in the context of distance education institutions, this subsystem of student support emerges as a central aspect in social and cognitive presence (Garrison & Anderson, 2003) and in the creation of knowledge and ties in and on the community. It is in this sense that this presentation, based in a pilot e-mentoring project implemented in a department of an european Open University, framed in the paradigm of Virtual Learning Communities and within the framework of the Model of the Community of Inquiry (CoI), aims to present a set of assumptions for the construction of an e-mentoring model adapted to this teaching-learning modality and adapted to the students profile.
