- Building an OER: OEP ecosystemPublication . Bastos, Glória; Carvalho, MadalenaSchool Access to digital content like OER has expanded and open repositories play a significant role in this field, but to improve the use and reuse of these OER it is important to understand how they can be used. To link OER to practices, Universidade Aberta (UAb) is developing an OER-OEP ecosystem, which includes the creation, description, preservation, sharing and possibility of reuse of educational resources used in open educational practices, that is, the articulation between resources and their didacticpedagogical contextualization, based on real pedagogical contexts of use. Besides, important aspects like quality through external validation and sustainability of the project are guaranteed considering the procedures that have been implemented. The case of UAb Open Repository, giving this kind of information, is an important tool to improve the effective use of OER and can be considered an example of good practices, of transversal interest for administrators of institutional repositories, teachers and other educational agents with an interest in open education.
- A educação para a cidadania na educação pré-escolar: a formação de educadores no âmbito da educação interculturalPublication . Marques, Célia; Bastos, Glória
- Mobile learning: perceptions and practices in online educationPublication . Bastos, Glória; Cardoso, Teresa Margarida LoureiroLearning with the use of mobile technologies, which becomes more flexible, can effectively replace the static technologies of desktop computers, as referred to in the literature. On the other hand, academic environments arise as ideal for implementing, testing and evaluating pedagogical and technological innovations, including in the scope of mobile devices, allowing to prove or refute the technical feasibility and pedagogical possibilities of these devices. But what perceptions do students and teachers have on the use of mobile technologies and mobile devices? And what practices of mobile learning do they engage on? By mapping and analyzing open access research, a mobile learner profile can be portrayed, being collaboration and interaction key features. In fact, both students and teachers are immersed in cultural and technological environments, where knowledge is built and shared as part of a social process. Concerning the case of Universidade Aberta, a distance and online public university, working already in a digital context, what is the place for mobile technologies and mobile learning? It is fundamental to consider a set of pedagogical possibilities that technologies offer to digital and networked learning contexts. In this context, faculty training is an important tool, and various strategies are already being developed. We conclude that both m-learning and the faculty training at Universidade Aberta are important opportunities to become aware of the need for educational innovation in higher education, and to promote reflective thought in teaching and learning perceptions and practices.
- A self-evaluation model for school libraries in PortugalPublication . Bastos, Glória; Conde, Elsa; Martins, RosaThis chapter presents a project developed by the Portuguese School Libraries Network aimed at establishing a Self-Evaluation Model for School Libraries. The context from which the Self-Evaluation Model originated is described indepth, with a particular focus on the different stages of implementation and the incorporation of feedback obtained from schools. Additionally, the chapter introduces some of the solutions found to tackle issues related to the scale and scope of the intervention: the Self-Evaluation Model was applied at national level, across several levels of education, and it entailed the use of e-learning for country-wide staff training purposes. The objectives of each phase of implementation are outlined and discussed with reference to resources, procedures and outcomes generated. The chapter closes with a reflection on the impact of the Self-Evaluation Model on future action and on its added value to international practice.
