Abstract(s)
We study the faunal remains of C.2A of Locus I15, recovered in the late Chalcolithic occupation levels with beaker ceramics ‑ Palmela stylistic group (Phase IC – around 2250 cal BC) from the fortified settlement of Chibanes (Palmela). In what concern mammals, there is a clear predominance of domestic animals, represented in descending order by the pig, followed by caprine (sheep and goats) and cattle. Feeding was complemented by hunting of large, medium, and small animals, probably represented by the aurochs and eventually the wild boar, and certainly the red deer and wild rabbit. Fishes and birds were residually represented. This study allowed us to know the characteristics of the food economy of the beaker inhabitants of Chibanes, enabling a comparison with the scarce results available from other archaeological sites of the same cultural horizon, both in Extremadura and Baixo Alentejo.
