O artigo apresentado estuda o tema do antibiblismo numa figura portuguesa
This paper presents a study on the topic of anti-biblism in a contemporary Portuguese author, José Saramago (Nobel Prize in Literature in 1998). Despite his attacks on the Bible as a “manual of bad habits”, the Portuguese writer is especially targeting the institution that interprets it – the religion, or, more specifically, the Catholic Church – , and the way this is done, foremost through the so-called ‘symbolic’ readings. Therefore, it is also possible to link the Portuguese writer to the ancient exegete Marcion of Sinope or even the 18th century deists.
