Abstract(s)
This article summarizes data from the Doctoral thesis in Education, carried out in a private institution, located in the south of Brazil, and defended in January 2020. The problematization established for the investigation aimed to analyze: What factors most contribute to promote the engagement of students first year of graduation? For data analysis, a combined methodology was chosen, supported by data triangulation as a rationale for multiple sources of evidence. This methodology enabled the production of a more complete and reliable analysis for the consequent elaboration of a proposal for an integrated theory of academic engagement for the Brazilian context, as a thesis proposal. The online questionnaire was the instrument chosen for data collection, applied to seventy-eight first-year undergraduate students from six Higher Education Institutions, located in three Brazilian states. The factors pointed out by the respondents highlighted in order of preference: 1) Interpersonal Relations; 2) Academic training (teacher's posture / attitudes); 3) Digital Technologies; 4) Institution's infrastructure; 5) Personal training / interest and dedication of the student; 6) Academic Support; 7) Contents worked / offered; 8) Leisure / entertainment areas; 9) Feeling of belonging to a university
