Abstract(s)
We live a new social paradigm, where information circulates intensely through networks mediated by technology. Our participation in these networks determines the access to knowledge and the reconfiguration of the relational processes, which brings us great challenges but also opportunities, namely to learn and evolve, to better respond to our personal or professional needs. Thus, using digital social networks gives us the power to access knowledge and integrates us into an online participatory culture. In this context, it is essential to consider new paths for learning, different and innovative, that respond to the needs of individuals throughout their lives. We assume, therefore, as the purpose of this text, to reflect on the relationship between social networks and Open Education, exploring how the new needs of learning retate to the social dynamics made possible by life online. Digital social networks have given us new horizons, in which we are no longer mere consumers of information, becoming knowledge producers, implying the development of new skills. In this sense, educational agents must play an important role in the implementation of new strategies and methodologies in order to respond to the new needs of individuals. Thus, digital social networks offer new opportunities for education, helping to overcome physical and temporal distance, enabling enriching social interactions for the benefit of lifelong learning. But it is also seen that new content and educational methodologies are needed, attending to the different types of learning, increasingly customized, especially through the new online media, such as digital social networks.
