Utilização da Wikipédia por estudantes: um estudo exploratório no ensino superior online

Tomando como ponto de partida uma extensa e cuidada revisão da literatura, e um estudo exploratório, realizado no contexto do Mestrado em Pedagogia do eLearning da Universidade Aberta, acreditamos que a utilização da Wikipédia no campo educativo e académico deva ser fomentada. No entanto, para o fazer coerente e consistentemente, importa conhecer a priori que conceção têm e que utilizações fazem estudantes e professores desta enciclopédia online; neste texto, apresentamos e discutimos a utilização na perspetiva dos estudantes, nomeadamente estudantes do ensino superior online português. Para o efeito, damos conta de um inquérito por questionário que desenvolvemos e implementámos junto do referido público-alvo, questionário que foi previamente validado e disponibilizado online como instrumento de recolha de dados. Estes foram analisados com recurso à estatística descritiva, sendo possível concluir que a esmagadora maioria dos estudantes inquiridos acedem à Wikipédia, porém, são ainda poucos os que o fazem para trabalho académico. Também a criação e/ou atualização de artigos na Wikipédia é residual, manifestando abertura para o fazer. Em suma, embora as práticas dos estudantes do ensino superior inquiridos sejam favoráveis à Wikipédia, será necessária mais formação para que possa ser integrada de modo consistente neste contexto educacional.
Bearing in mind an extensive and thorough literature review, and an exploratory study, developed at the Universidade Aberta, the Open University of Portugal, within a Master Thesis in eLearning Pedagogy, we believe the use of Wikipedia in educational and academic contexts should be encouraged. However, in order to do so, coherent and consistently, it is important to previously analyze the perceptions of students and teachers about this online encyclopedia, and how they use it. In this text, we present and discuss them, from the perspective of the students, namely Portuguese online higher education students. We present the survey by questionnaire that we developed and applied to those students; this survey was previously validated and made available online. The data was statistically analyzed, allowing us to conclude that the students we inquired use the Wikipedia, however only a few explores this encyclopedia for university assighments. Then, the results are circumscribed, but still they show the potential for a possible opening to the implementation of learning activities in this scope. In short, even if the practices of the students we inquired are favorable to the Wikipedia, more training will be necessary so that it can be consistently integrated in this context of online higher education.
