Abstract(s)
Após apresentação dos Académicos intervenientes neste processo, J. Leite de Vasconcellos e J. Fontes, alude-se à história da descoberta de importante espólio paleolítico em Casal do Monte e, em especial, à colecção oferecida à Academia das Ciências de Lisboa por J. Fontes, agora inventariada e estudada. Nela estão representados os principais tipos de artefactos, de sílex e quartzito do Paleolítico Inferior e Médio, que aí ocorrem. Dá-se conta de resultados de novos trabalhos que melhor esclarecem as condições e estratigrafia da jazida.
After presenting the Academicians J. Leite de Vasconcellos and J. Fontes that intervened in this field, we deal with the History of the discovery of the very important Palaeolithic site at Casal do Monte, near Loures, Lisbon. Special attention is paid to the collection from Casal do Monte that was offered by Fontes to the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and is now studied for the first time. The main types of Lower and Middle Palaeolithic implements, mainly in flint and some in quartzite, are represented. An account is provided of recent field work that resulted into a much better knowledge of the site’s conditions and stratigraphy.
