| dc.description.abstract | Ao longo deste ensaio analisa-se o modo como a Fortuna se constituiu no século XVI como signo construtor de um discurso imperial no Portugal de Quinhentos, atendendo, para além do conteúdo ontológico deste signo, aos conceitos de milenarismo e messianismo. Interpretar-se-á o discurso imperial consubstanciado nas Histórias gerais redigidas no século XVI sobre a presença portuguesa nos espaços extra-europeus. Nesta análise discursiva atender-se-á á centralidade que ganhou no discurso historiográfico de Fernão Lopes de Castanheda, na impressão de 1554 do primeiro livro da História do Descobrimento e Conquista da Índia pelos Portugueses, a tradição sibilina vertida na incorporação de um capítulo sobre a profecia de sibila Cumea, no momento em que Nicolau Coelho, que partira com Vasco da Gama para Portugal em 1498, noticia o sucesso desta viagem e informa D. Manuel da sua próxima chegada. Esta incursão discursiva demonstra como historiograficamente se expõe um desígnio dinástico. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | In this essay, we analyse how fortune was conceived in the sixteenth century as a conceptual sign of an imperial discourse in sixteenth-century Portugal, bearing in mind, as well as the ontological content of this sign, the concepts of both millenarism and messianism. The imperial discourse embodied in the Histories General written in the 16th century on the Portuguese presence in extra-European spaces will be interpreted. We proposes an analysis of the imperial discourse on the Portuguese presence in extra-European spaces, as embodied in the 16th-century General Histories. This discursive approach will focus on the centrality of the Sibylline tradition in the historiographical discourse of Fernão Lopes de Castanheda, in the 1554 printing of the first book of the História do Descobrimento e Conquista da Índia pelos Portugueses, with the chapter on the prophecy of the Sibyl Cumea, at the moment when Nicolau Coelho, who hade sailed on his way with Vasco da Gama in 1498, reported the success of this voyage and informed King Manuel of his oncoming arrival. This discursive incursion reveals how a dynastic design is historiographically exposed. | eng |
