Abstract(s)
The establishment of the Bell Beaker presence, on the lower courses of the Tagus and Sado rivers was traditionally related to the rupture of the socio-economic system based upon large fortified settlements. The return, at the end of the chalcolithic, to patterns of settement similar to those of the Late Neolithic, would not have been related to any economic or social regression; instead, their success is demonstrated by the increase of foreign materials (Amphibolites, Copper). The luxury objects, some made of gold, suggest the reinforcement of elites. The fighting equipment found in settlements and graves was probably used by an emerging warrior class.
