Entrepreneurship is considered a strategic tool for economic and social development, with each region having a unique approach to creating value. In this context, the present study aimed to explore a Mediterranean case study, questioning the existence of an alternative approach to entrepreneurship in Portugal, Spain, and Greece, and distinguishing it, for example, from the Anglo-Saxon model, which is often privileged in the literature and considered universal. To achieve this, we conducted a theoretical and reflective review of the literature on the key characteristics of the Mediterranean entrepreneurial ecosystem, which promote the development of new businesses. The results obtained indicate the existence of a network based on three key vectors – Mediterranean culture, resources, and local political power – which gives rise to a Mediterranean entrepreneurial ecosystem model. Thus, in the three countries analysed, practical entrepreneurship is collective and is supported by local political power, which facilitates the necessary resources and partnerships. In addition, these results reinforce the need for research that articulates both the universal facets and the specificities of the context, contributing to an increasingly contextual, holistic, and glocal view of this phenomenon.
