O tema desta dissertação Ă© âO ensino de PortuguĂȘs LĂngua NĂŁo Materna (PLNM) na Irlanda: a co-docĂȘncia como instrumento para o ensino das variedades americana e europeia da lĂngua portuguesaâ.
No enquadramento teĂłrico, aborda-se a relação entre as polĂticas econĂłmicas e de lĂngua, com destaque para o papel do portuguĂȘs na polĂtica linguĂstica da Irlanda e a co-docĂȘncia como estratĂ©gia para o ensino bivariacional da lĂngua. Em seguida, analisam-se as realidades demogrĂĄfica e econĂłmica, incluindo a imigração na Irlanda, a relevĂąncia da balança comercial e o impacto da polĂtica econĂłmica na polĂtica de lĂngua, exemplificado pelo Projeto Brasil.
A investigação e anĂĄlise de bibliografia e fontes de informação assinala a importĂąncia estratĂ©gica do ensino de lĂnguas estrangeiras, descreve o panorama do ensino de portuguĂȘs na Irlanda e explora a realidade demogrĂĄfica de imigrantes lusĂłfonos, bem como as relaçÔes comerciais da Irlanda com Portugal e o Brasil. AlĂ©m disto, a multiculturalidade Ă© apresentada como ferramenta para o ensino de lĂnguas, e o modelo de co-docĂȘncia, inspirado na experiĂȘncia do ensino especial, Ă© analisado como potencialmente aplicĂĄvel ao ensino bivariacional da lĂngua portuguesa.
Por fim, Ă© discutida a pertinĂȘncia do ensino do portuguĂȘs em regime bivariacional, destacando-se as suas potencialidades e implicaçÔes no contexto irlandĂȘs.
The title of this dissertation is âTeaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PTFL) in Ireland: Co-teaching as a tool for teaching the American and European varieties of the Portuguese Language.â The theoretical framework explores the relationship between economic and language policies, highlighting the role of Portuguese in Ireland's language policy and co-teaching as a strategy for bilingual teaching of the language. Following this, demographic and economic realities are examined, including immigration in Ireland, the importance balance of trade, and the influence of economic policy on language policy, as exemplified by the Brazil Project. The research and analysis of literature and sources underline the strategic importance of learning foreign languages, provide an overview of the teaching of Portuguese in Ireland, and delve into the demographic reality of Portuguese-speaking immigrants as well as Irelandâs trade relationships with Portugal and Brazil. Furthermore, multiulturalism is presented as a tool for teaching foreign languages, and the co-teaching model, inspired by the experience in special education, is analysed as potentially applicable to bilingual teaching of the Portuguese language. Finally, the relevance of teaching Portuguese in a bilingual environment is discussed and assessed, with emphasis on its potential benefits and implicaôons within the Irish context.
