Abstract(s)
A escavação, em 2003, do núcleo I da necrópole da Idade do Ferro do Cabeço da Vaca, justificou a escavação, no ano seguinte, do núcleo II da mesma necrópole, constituído por uma única sepultura, cujo estudo agora se apresenta, a qual dista das anteriores cerca de 250 m para Este.
Os resultados obtidos da escavação, vieram confirmar que se tratava de uma cista da Idade do Ferro, de maiores dimensões que as suas homólogas do núcleo I, as quais corporizam a fase mais antiga da necrópole.
Fora já alvo de violação, a qual, porém, não atingiu o nível basal, onde se recolheu um raro punhal de ferro, munido de guarda de prata no encabamento, cuja tipologia indica cronologia anterior ao século V a.c., claramente compatível com a fase mais antiga da necrópole. As características excepcionais desta peça, remetem para um indivíduo destacado no seio da comunidade, merecendo, por isso, a sua sepultura adequada individualização, tanto no tamanho, como, sobretudo, no local seleccionado para a sua construção, isolando-a em uma pequena elevação, dominando visualmente o outro núcleo da necrópole, onde foram inumados os restantes elementos desta pequena comunidade da I Idade do Ferro da serra algarvia.
The excavation of the locus I of the necropolis of the Iron Age of Cabeço da Vaca took place on 2003, and lead to the excavation of the locus II of the same necropolis, one single grave distant 250 m to the East, on the following year. We present here the results of this second excavation and the possible relationships establish between the two loci. The results obtained confirmed the existence of a cist from the lron Age, with larger dimensions than the previously studied, corresponding to the most ancient phase of the locus 1. The cist had already been violated but not on the basal level, where a rare iron dagger was found with a silver guard, between the blade and the hilt, whose typology indicates a chronology previous to the middle of the V century BC and clearly compatible with the occupation phase of the locus 1 of the same necropolis. The exceptional characterístics of this artefact indicate an individual high in social rank deserving a special grave, either in size and in the location, isolated in a small elevation, visually dominating the other locus of the necropolis, where the common elements of this little community from the Iron Age of inland Algarve were buried.
