Abstract - hrough Poetry one can achieve the truth⦠(Sebastião da Gama) Sebastião da Gama (1924-52) has legated us such an immense work as his short but intense life was. He is the poet of the integral, pure and radiant life harvest by destiny in such a bitter way as it was joyfully marked by an immeasurable optimism. The work that is now being presented, falls upon a restrict textual corpus: works published during his life or, in some way, left ready by him or almost finished; his letters, related to these works and also his pedagogical poem Diary. A first source idea abounds in this textual universe. Figuratively, we might represent it as an equilateral triangle in whose vertices of the basis one can find the poles ME and the OTHER, being GOD in the superior vertex, as to legitimate, gratuitously, the reading line that we have privileged: Miracle of Life in the search for the Eternal. Sebastião da Gama can be included in the best poetical tradition, knowing, in relation to his epoch, to float with accurateness in the foam of literary currents and movements. He turns out to be a revitalizing poet, being for many not just a reference but a paradigm of life. One of the secrets of the singularity and freshness of his poetry resides, possibly, in the fact that we are in presence of a profoundly adult poet having at the same time the attitude of a dazzled and touching child. As if he was an adultchild. Sebastião da Gama is a man that is attentive to all the tonalities of nature and to the almost infinite nuances of the human palette. In fact, he is an complete being in his dimensions of man and poet in love with art, but nonetheless less committed in the promotion of a fairer and more solidary world. We can, thus, reaffirm that the Poetry of Sebastião da Gama, with a divine source and with a profound connection of man to nature and to the universe, send us back , in a recurring spiral, to the divine, his primordial origin; it is assumed as a Christian and human commitment; and mirrors, predominantly, his joy of living and his optimism. He is, therefore, a poet of an integral humanism
