Abstract(s)
O objetivo do presente artigo é refletir sobre o significado da realização de cirurgias estéticas étnicas, no contexto do interculturalismo e da sociedade de consumo e sua relação com as migrações internacionais. A prática das cirurgias estéticas étnicas por imigrantes remonta ao final do século XIX e ganha novos significados na sociedade contemporânea. O artigo baseia-se em narrativas coletadas com cirurgiões plásticos
de Coimbra, Lisboa e Madri, no ano de 2014 e foram obtidas por meio de entrevistas presenciais, orientadas por um roteiro semiestruturado, e seu conteúdo foi analisado com base na literatura sobre cirurgias estéticas, sociedade de consumo e identidades descentradas. Como resultado, o artigo aponta para o caráter ambivalente destas práticas por serem, ao mesmo tempo, normatizadoras e transgressoras em um mundo
que celebra as diferenças, mas também mantém a preocupação constante com os traços físicos étnicos considerados exagerados ou, como os médicos entrevistados nomeiam, grotescos.
The goal of this article is think about the significance of the aesthetic surgery in the context of consumer society and of the interculturalism and its relationship with the migration. The realization of ethnic) surgery was observed in the end of the 19th century and gets news signification in the contemporary society. The narratives were collected with cosmetics surgeons in the Coimbra, Lisbon and Madrid cities in 2014 and were obtained using a presencial interview as well as with a semistructured screenplay. Their content was analyzed based in the literature about aesthetic surgery, consumer society and identities. In short, the article concluded that the aesthetic surgery done per migrants have ambivalent meanings because they have, at the same time, a normalizing and transgressive character in a world that celebrates the difference as right but, nonetheless, retains the preoccupation with ethnic characteristics considered exaggerated and grotesque.
