Abstract(s)
In a globalized society as the one we are living in today, international networking
has become critical both for individuals and institutions. In this new context, high er education institutions, namely universities, need to acquire the means and the
expertise to develop global strategies, including cross-border education, but with out losing a clear sense of their local specific conditions and cultural background.
To find a «gate» for going global yet remaining locally relevant is the challenge for
109
most of the universities in the world today. That is why it is so critical for universi ties to develop quality standards and reference models for International Depart ments (ID) management. In this paper we present how the EL-Gate Project
addressed this challenge, by disseminating a dedicated model for Latin American
universities, thus helping to promote its internationalization.
