O outro na literatura juvenil portuguesa no novo milénio : vozes, silêncios, (con)figurações

| dc.description.abstract | Em Portugal, desde a década de 80 que uma literatura de potencial recepção juvenil tem vindo a marcar território a nível editorial, deparando-se os leitores com produções inseridas em várias tendências, desde os textos realistas aos textos fantásticos, passando pelas narrativas de aventura e mistério. A literatura juvenil constitui-se como um lugar de cruzamento de olhares do leitor com a Alteridade e outras culturas e formas de ver o Mundo, podendo ser um espaço de encontro fraternal com o Outro ou um privilegiado disseminador de estereótipos. As práticas discursivas, entre as quais integramos os textos literários, têm poderosos efeitos ideológicos, pelo modo como representam a realidade, sendo mecanismos que produzem e reproduzem as relações de poder. Neste contexto, os textos literários, enquanto formas de discurso, mas também os autores, enquanto agentes sociais, contribuem para a criação de imagens culturais e sociais do Outro e para a consolidação, em alguns casos, de preconceitos. Neste estudo, analisam-se as narrativas de recorte realista publicadas em Portugal entre1995 e 2010, nas suas especificidades narrativas, linguísticas e literárias, centrando-se a análise ao nível da história e ao nível do discurso, procurando verificar-se a relação que as mesmas estabelecem, a nível temático e formal, com um leitor modelo inserido numa fase específica de desenvolvimento (adolescência). Por outro lado, buscam-se as representações da Alteridade presentes num corpus de produções literárias de autores portugueses, estudando-se o seu impacto ideológico sobre o potencial público receptor e a forma como remetem para um conjunto de modelos socioculturais. No contexto das representações da Alteridade, analisam-se não só as imagens do «estrangeiro», mas também do Outro que, embora vivendo entre nós, é percepcionado como diferente e/ou estranho, nomeadamente o Outro cigano, o Outro gordo, o Outro homossexual e o Outro portador de deficiência física ou mental. Nas narrativas analisadas surgem vozes que consolidam (con)figurações da alteridade e outras que desconstroem estereótipos. Por outro lado, abundam os silêncios que a seu modo cristalizam visões e não suscitam o encontro com o Outro. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Young adult literature has been gaining ground in Portugal in publishing since the 80s. Readers have found productions in a variety of genres from realistic to fantasy fiction, as well as adventure and mystery narratives. Young adult literature is a place where the reader’s view intersects with otherness, other cultures and ways of seeing the world. It can also be a place of fraternal meeting with the Other or a privileged disseminator of stereotypes. Discursive practices, in which we integrate literary texts, have powerful ideological effects in the way they represent reality. They are mechanisms which produce and reproduce power relationships. In this context, literary texts as forms of discourse, but the authors as social actors as well, contribute to creating social and cultural images of the other and to consolidating prejudices in some cases. In this study, realistic narratives published in Portugal between 1995 and 2010 in their narrative, literary and linguistic specificities are analyzed. The analysis is focused on the story and discursive aspects, with the aim of determining their relationship, in formal and thematic terms, with a model reader at a particular stage of development (adolescence). In addition, we seek the portrayals of otherness in a corpus of literary books by Portuguese authors, studying their ideological impact on the potential audience and the way they refer to a set of sociocultural models. In the context of representing otherness, not only are the images of the «foreign» analyzed, but also the other, who, though living among us, is perceived as different and/or strange, especially the gypsy, the fat/overweight, the homosexual and the physically or mentally disabled. In the narratives analyzed voices emerge that consolidate (con)figurations of otherness and others that deconstruct stereotypes. However, there are abundant silences which, in their own way, crystallize visions and do not foster the encounter with the other. | |
