A tese Vozes educacionais e culturais da ilha do Príncipe: Uma reflexão
sobre identidade (s) aborda o tema da identidade cultural da ilha do Príncipe, no
arquipélago de São Tomé e Príncipe. O objetivo é refletir sobre a forma como o
dinamismo da identidade cultural principense na contemporaneidade e como a
educação podem contribuir para a sua construção e reconstrução.
A pesquisa explora conceitos fundamentais como cultura, identidade,
colonialismo, pós-colonialismo e colonialidade, além de teorias como a teoria racial
crítica e a pedagogia culturalmente relevante.
Após séculos de presença de cultura europeia, a cultura da ilha do Príncipe
enfrenta uma reconstrução. Abordam-se os desafios linguísticos por que a ilha está a
passar com a perda gradual da língua nativa, o lung´ie, e o predomínio crescente de
outras línguas, como o crioulo cabo-verdiano e o português, bem como a importância
de manifestações culturais como o Auto de Floripes, para preservação da memória
histórica.
A pesquisa busca uma compreensão abrangente da identidade cultural
principense, com destaque para a diversidade cultural e linguística, com recurso a
metodologias qualitativas e quantitativas, como entrevistas e questionários.
Enfatizando-se o potencial transformador da educação, alinhado com as
recomendações da Organização das Nações Unidas, em 2023, apresenta-se uma
proposta de reformulação curricular para disciplinas de humanidades da ilha do
Príncipe, visando promover uma sociedade mais justa e inclusiva, assim como uma
democracia cultural crescente.
The thesis Educational and cultural voices of Príncipe island: a Reflection on identity(ies) delves into the subject of the cultural identity of Príncipe island, in the São Tomé e Príncipe arquipelago. The objetive is to contemplate how the dynamism of the Príncipe´s cultural identity functions in contemporary times and how education can contribute to its construction and reconstruction. The research explores fundamental concepts such as culture, identity, colonialism, postcolonialism and coloniality, along with theories like critical race theory and culturally relevant pedagogy. After centuries of european cultural influence, Príncipe´s island culture is undergoing a process of reformation. The thesis adresses the linguistic challenges faced by the island, including the gradual loss of the native language, Lung´ie, and the increasing dominance of other languages, like Cape Verdian Creole and Portuguese. It also underscores the importance of cultural events like the Auto de Floripes in preserving historical memory. The research aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of Príncipe´s cultural identity, emphasizing the cultural and linguistic diversity, using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, such as interviews and questionaires. Highlighting the transformative potencial of education in line with the recommendations of the United Nations in 2023, a proposal for curriculum reform for humanities subjects on the island is presented. This proposal aims to promote a fairer and more inclusive society, as well as a growing cultural democracry.
