The purpose of this communication is to discuss and analyze a very common theme in contemporary documentary productions, the presence of the director in the film whose main theme to their own history, and more specifically those that address the disease. Are a multiplicity of interests that lead a director to disclose, stripping naked face to the camera, but all aim to bring what was usually behind the scenes of realization, or rather behind the camera, daring, revealing, often uneasily, situations in their own lives. From mainly 1980s, a lot of filmmakers will specialize this theme in works focused on themselves, in their lives.Examples of documentaries that show the status of the director’s own illness are the films of Hervé Guibert, La Pudeur ou l’impudeur (1989); Johan van der Keuken, and more recently John Pinto What Now? Remember Me (2013). On the other hand, Tarnation (2003) Jonathan Caouette and the documentary of David Sieveking, Do not Forget Me (Vergiss mein nicht 2013) and the documentary of Sandrine Bonnaire, Elle s’appelle Sabine (2007), show the situation of a close family illness. Our goal is to show and analyze what these films have in common and how these lives are shown, what strategies these filmmakers use to unfold in the film, as is his presence on the screen, and what devices and film elements are employed for this selfmostration.pt_PT
