O presente estudo procura examinar de que modo um grupo de estudantes de um curso intensivo de Português Língua Não Materna se serve de estratégias de hedging para proteger os seus enunciados, ao longo de uma série de entrevistas. O corpus é constituído por narrações de histórias de vida. Pretende-se verificar de que modo estes alunos, que procuram comunicar em Português no final do curso, usam estas estratégias, que consubstanciam um investimento implícito com cariz protecionista dos enunciados, resultante da assunção prévia de riscos inerentes ao ato comunicativo em causa. Estas subtilezas da língua variam na forma, no conteúdo, na intencionalidade e na referenciação dos enunciados, constituindo autênticas “armadilhas” para utilizadores pouco familiarizados com as questões pragmático-culturais de cada sociedade.
This study seeks to examine how a group of students in an intensive Portuguese course for non-native speakers use hedging strategies to protect their utterances, throughout a series of interviews. The corpus is made up of narratives of life stories. The aim is to verify how these students, who try to communicate in Portuguese at the end of their course, use these strategies, which constitute an implicit investment in the protection of their utterances, resulting from the previous assumption of risks inherent to the communicative act in question. These nuances of language vary in form, content, intentionality and reference of utterances, and are authentic traps for users unfamiliar with the pragmatic-cultural issues of each society.
