Abstract(s)
In the last few decades, the concept of genre has received particular attention and it has been granted a central spot both in Linguistics and in Language Didactics. It is generally defined and characterized in a consensual way, as similar criteria (numerous and heterogeneous) are applied in different disciplinary areas and theoretical models (Adam, 2001; Maingueneau, 2014). Furthermore, identical classes are set, such as novel, editorial, proceedings, PhD Dissertation, etc.). However, the Systemic-Functional Linguistics conception (Rose and Martin, 2012) discloses relevant differences. Actually, in this theoretical model, the concept of genre refers to distinct categories and, frequently, to text excerpts, and not to complete texts. Therefore, this paper is intended to present remarks on genre conceptions that are inherent in several theoretical frameworks, particularly in the Social-Historical and Dialogical Perspective (Bakhtin, 1986), Systemic-Functional Linguistics (Rose and Martin, 2012), Text Linguistics/Discourses’ Textual Analysis (Adam, 2001, 2008), Discourse Analysis (Maingueneau, 2014) and Sociodiscursive Interactionism (Bronckart, 1997). Attention is focused on the criteria that are used to establish genre classification(s), according to several theoretical frameworks, and on the genre categories that are proposed.
