Abstract(s)
This study focuses on the fate of medieval hagiographic legends in the 16th century, when they stopped being published and gave way to other historiographically more critical legends and conveying a new type or model of holiness, which better corresponded to the council's demands of Trent. During this process of change, it is curious to note that legendary novel sayings were subject to tight control by the Inquisition, which is why some of them incorporated the indexes of banned books at the time.
