- Prejudice in a Portuguese contextPublication . Caetano, João Relvão; Nshom, Elvis; Croucher, StephenThis chapter discusses how the Portuguese state and society have recognized and fought prejudice. The work is interdisciplinary in nature, drawing on knowledge from the social and political sciences, legal science, and communication studies. The study is composed of four parts. The first part is the description of the context and main concepts of the research plan. The second part is a theoretical analysis of the social and political relevance of prejudice. The third part is an analysis of the Portuguese situation based on some relevant cases. Although the study focuses on the long term, special emphasis is given to contemporary society. A qualitative methodology is used to identify and characterize the behavior of the main actors: social movements, people and the state as the lawmaker. It is concluded that Portugal is generally at the forefront in the fight against prejudice through the convening of discourses on human rights, although there are different interpretations of what they mean.
