- Creative Industries’ Network of Entrepreneurs Lessons learned from the offering of an Acceleration Program in Portugal, Spain and Greece, to foster entrepreneurship in CCIsPublication . Hassid, Joseph; Porfírio, José; Carrilho, Tiago; Polemis, Michael; Gilabert, Eva; Rodriguez-Ardura, InmaThe Creative Industries Network of Entrepreneurs (CINet) is a research project in innovation and creative entrepreneurship being implemented, within the Lifelong Learning Programme, Leonardo da Vinci, of the European Commission. The CINet project aims at improving business skills for creative entrepreneurs and enhancing the potential for business creation in the creative industries in three Southern European countries (Greece, Portugal, and Spain). To achieve its objectives, CINet brings together six partners (Universidade Aberta, the University of Piraeus, the Open University of Catalonia, UKWON, MediaDeals, and DNA Cascais), with expertise in entrepreneurship research and education provision for potential entrepreneurs. The course was offered in a pilot fashion, during the April – June 2015 period, and aimed to help and provide support to would-be entrepreneurs who desire to start-up in the creative sector (including arts and crafts, architecture, gastronomy, leisure, videogames, advertising, press and media, film and audiovisual activities, public relations and publishing industry, among others). After a period of conception, development and testing, this acceleration program was offered in Portugal, Spain and Greece in three different modalities: face-to-face in Greece; bLearning in Portugal; and eLearning in Spain.
- Family business succession in different national contexts: a fuzzy-set QCA approachPublication . Porfírio, José; Carrilho, Tiago; Hassid, Joseph; Rodrigues, RicardoFamily business succession is a key topic that has attracted considerable attention from researchers, especially in the last decade. Most research, however, is based on case studies with limited applicability and fails to present comparisons across international contexts that highlight di erences in succession processes. We apply expectation states theory to analyze a sample of 128 observations in two Southern European countries, Portugal and Greece. We study configurations of successors’ characteristics, family business characteristics, the existence (or absence) of a succession plan, and successors’ motivation to succeed. Our aim is to reveal how these issues a ect successors’ perceptions of preparation for succession using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Family businesses are a dominant organizational form all over the world, and succession issues are critical for the sustainability of family businesses. Our findings suggest that di erent configurations of conditions influence successors’ perceptions of preparation for family business succession. Moreover, we verify the influence of cultural di erences on these processes. This research helps fill a gap in the literature, showing the role of a set of characteristics in successors’ perceptions of preparation for family business succession. Our conclusions provide insight into the types of policies that can promote successful family business succession.
- Promoting entrepreneurship in cultural and creative industries in Europe: creative industries entrepreneur’s network : the CINet projectPublication . Porfírio, José; Hassid, Joseph; Carrilho, TiagoCINet, the Creative Industries Network of Entrepreneurs was a project inspired in the unique ecology of Nottingham’s creative industry sector. The project was funded by the European Commission under Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation Program (cinet.eu.uab.pt) CINet brings together creative industry clusters in Nottingham, Greece, Portugal and Spain. Its aim was to facilitate shared learning amongst entrepreneurs and to promote entrepreneurship in the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) by developing the conditions for learning and collaborative advantage within small firm clusters. CINet Partners came from several southern European countries (Portugal, Spain, Greece and France), the UK and Romania. They were: • Universidade Aberta, Lisbon (Portugal) – Project Coordinator • UK WON (UK Work Organisation Network) • Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Barcelona (Spain) • University of Piraeus Research Centre-UPRC, Athens (Greece) • Association for Education and Sustainable Development (Romania) • DNA, Cascais (Portugal) • Media Deals Association (France) CINet developed an acceleration program that was offered through three main modalities: full eLearning; blended-learning and full face-to-face training. This permitted to test the different conditions and respective advantages and drawbacks of training entrepreneurs. The outcomes of the project allowed the creation of a network of creative entrepreneurs between the three Southern European Countries involved; an improvement of knowledge concerning important differences deriving from the different type of entrepreneurship training delivery, and also the need to consider different cultural conditions when defining public policies and actions concerning entrepreneurship development in CCIs.
