Abstract(s)
Este estudo tem como principal desafio o de adaptar uma teoria sociocultural
complexa (Cultural Bias) a uma perspectiva comunicacional da
promoção da saúde.
Apesar da promoção da saúde ser um conceito crítico no âmbito da
saúde pública, atendendo às discrepâncias existentes entre a teoria e a
prática, continuam a ser desenvolvidas estratégias de acção (OMS) que
tentam articular estilos de vida com processos de tomada de decisão numa
base estrutural compatível e saudável para as populações.
A promoção da saúde encontra na Teoria de Mary Douglas um
contributo para os conceitos de responsabilidade e empowerment do cidadão.
Este contributo visa desenvolver metodologias de intervenção de forma a
reforçar a capacidade de cada indivíduo em gerir, eficaz e saudávelmente, o
seu processo de saúde/doença, uma vez que tem em linha de conta os vários
aspectos que compõem a pessoa.
O estudo efectuado incidiu na análise da comunicação em saúde ao
diabético. Foram analisados, sob o método da análise de conteúdo, 21
folhetos de informação ao diabético recolhidos na Associação Protectora dos
Diabéticos de Portugal e realizadas 3 entrevistas a especialistas na área
(médicos endocrinologistas) a exercerem funções no mesmo local.
A articulação entre os conteúdos resultantes da análise e o material
consultado (documentos, teorias, bibliografia) demonstrou algum tipo de
contraste entre o que se diz e o que é feito. O modelo de saúde inerente à
comunicação é Ecológico, culturas de controlo e ideologias de acção
participativas caracterizam a comunicação aos diabéticos na promoção da
saúde.
Neste contexto os principais resultados obtidos evidenciam:
· a importância da capacitação dos profissionais de saúde
(responsáveis pela elaboração e implementação do material
informativo) de competências pedagógicas comunicacionais.

· a necessidade das estratégias de promoção para a saúde
defendidas pela OMS estarem presentes na elaboração dessas
formas de comunicar a saúde de forma a preencher o espaço
existente entre os modelos médicos e sociais.
· a percepção da potencialidade de que a promoção e a
comunicação em saúde podem ter implicações na doença
crónica – diabetes.
· o envolvimento de factores sociais e culturais têm influência no
comportamento dos indivíduos.
This study began with a challenge – to adapt a complex social-behavior theory (Cultural Bias) into the communication perspective of health promotion. Although health promotion is a critical concept in public health features, mostly due to differences between theory and practice, strategies in the WHO core still develop trying to articulate life style with processes of decision making in a compatible and healthy structure. In Mary Douglas Theory, health promotion finds a new meaning to the concepts of responsibility and empowerment of an individual. It aims to develop intervention methodologies to reinforce the individual skills on the healthy and efficacious management on his health/illness cycle. The present study aims to analyze the health communication strategies towards the diabetic patient in the Diabetic Portuguese Patients. Association. 21 information leaflets to the diabetic and 3 interviews to diabetes specialists were subject to scrutiny through the content analysis method. Articulating data, from the analyzed forms of communication, with the written contexts, of several investigators, reveal that is “easier said than done”. The outcomes from this study showed a tendency to use the Ecological health model in the various forms of communication used in the DPPA settings. A control culture, participative and autonomous actions are important implications in these findings. The major outcomes are: · health care professionals with pedagogic communication skills would be a must · the necessity of WHO strategies be present in the interventions designed to change behavior in order to fill the gap between the medic and social models in health · the role of an appropriate implementation and intervention programs regarding changes in behaviors and communication procedures is emphasized as a strategy for improving the practice of health promotion Cristina Dinarés · better communication skills may decrease disparities in health promotion resulting in favor to chronicle diseases (diabetes) · cultural and social factors can influence behavior
