O presente trabalho pretende revisitar parte da história e da memória do povo árabe no contexto medieval ibérico, propondo-se a analisar e delinear o perfil do mouro nas cantigas medievais galego-portuguesas.
Para tal, teremos por base dois websites: o do “projeto Littera”, que reúne as cantigas trovadorescas dos Cancioneiro da Ajuda, da Biblioteca Nacional e da Biblioteca Vaticana; e o do “Center for the study of the Cantigas de Santa Maria of Oxford University”, a base de dados por excelência no que toca às Cantigas de Santa Maria.
Como no primeiro corpus a maioria das cantigas sobre mouros é classificada como cantiga de escárnio e mal dizer e, no segundo, encontramos cantigas religiosas de louvor à Virgem e de narração dos seus milagres, o que nos é possível construir (ou reconstruir) é o modo como os muçulmanos eram “olhados”, quer nas cantigas satíricas, quer nas religiosas. Fazemo-lo comparando cantigas, identificando temas e personagens, encontrando diferenças e semelhanças.
Para além de “olhares” escritos que nos dão imagens mentais, comentaremos também a “imagem” física que nos é transmitida dos mouros, com recurso à iconografia da época.
The present work aims to rescue part of the history and memory of the Arab people in the medieval Iberian context, proposing to analyze and outline the profile of the Moor in medieval Galician-Portuguese songs. To do this, we will use two websites as a basis: that of the “Littera project”, which brings together troubadour songs from Cancioneiro da Ajuda, the National Library and the Vatican Library; and the “Center for the study of the Cantigas de Santa Maria of Oxford University”, the database par excellence when it comes to the Cantigas de Santa Maria. Since in the first corpus most of the songs about Moors are classified as songs of mockery and evil saying and, in the second, we find religious songs praising the Virgin and narrating her miracles, we intend to construct (or reconstruct) the way these were “looked at”, whether in satirical or religious songs. We do this by comparing songs, identifying themes and characters, and finding differences and similarities. In addition to written perspectives, we also comment on the physical “image” of the Moors, by considering the iconography of the time.
