Este artículo estudia la obra Don Álvaro o la fuerza del sino, escrita por Ángel de Saavedra, duque de Rivas. El texto toma como punto de partida el hecho de que el duque de Rivas ha sabido crear un conflicto dramático basándose en las fuerzas opuestas en torno al protagonista. La configuración de estas fuerzas permite evidenciar la tensión/encuentro entre los campos opuestos creados por el contraste sino-albedrío. Por consiguiente, mi estudio examinará los elementos que parecen determinar que la existencia de don Álvaro ha sido predeterminada bajo el signo de la desgracia y del desastre en cadena. Conjuntamente, se examinará la manera cómo el suicidio del protagonista podría ser considerada como la única opción para vencer al sino.
This article studies the play Don Álvaro o la fuerza del sino, by Ángel de Saavedra, Duke of Rivas. The paper takes as its starting point the fact that the Duke of Rivas has succeeded in creating a dramatic conflict based on the opposing forces surrounding the protagonist. The configuration of these forces highlights the tension/encounter between the camps created by contrasting fatefree will. Therefore, my study will examine the motifs that appear to determine don Álvaro’s existence under the sign of misfortune and disasters. Additionally, the article will examine how the protagonist’s suicide could be considered as the only possible choice for overcoming his fate.
