O estudo apresentado nesta dissertação versa sobre a língua portuguesa enquanto língua de
herança na cidade de Hudson em Massachusetts.
Há um crescente interesse em Língua de Herança, alavancado pela globalização e pela
consequente crescente multiculturalidade na generalidade dos países. No entanto, as
investigações científicas em contextos migratórios são ainda algo reduzidas.
Nos Estados Unidos, quer pela sua dimensão geográfica quer pela sua organização política,
cingiu-se a análise à região de Hudson. Como objetivo visou-se a análise de respostas de
políticas quanto à Língua e ao planeamento linguístico para o ensino do Português como
língua de herança. Tendo em conta as políticas educativas dos EUA, partiu-se da análise da
sua organização geral para a análise focada no Estado de Massachusetts, com incidência em
em Hudson.
The study presented in this dissertation is about Portuguese as a Heritage Language in the city of Hudson, Massachusetts. There is a growing interest in Heritage Language, leveraged by globalization and the consequent growing multiculturalism in most countries. However, scientific research in migratory contexts is still somewhat limited. In the United States, both for its geographical size and its political organization, the analysis was limited to the Hudson region. The objective was to analyze policy responses regarding language and language planning for the teaching of Portuguese as a heritage language. Considering the educational policies of the United States, we started from the analysis of its general organization to the analysis focused on the state of Massachusetts, with further emphasis on Hudson.
