A presente dissertação de Mestrado, parte integrante do curso de Mestrado em Estudos do Património, insere-se na linha de investigação do Património Documental Fotográfico. A partir do estudo específico do acervo fotográfico de António Passaporte (1901-1983) que se encontra no Serviço de Arquivo Municipal de Oeiras, procura-se demonstrar a relevância da fotografia como documento e como construtora de memória(s) e identidade.
António Passaporte nasceu em Portugal, tendo passado por África, Espanha e regressado definitivamente a Portugal na década de 30, do século XX, onde dedicou toda a sua vida a fotografar o nosso país e à impressão de postais, sendo as suas fotografias sobre o município de Oeiras, o objeto do nosso estudo.
No Serviço de Arquivo Municipal de Oeiras encontra-se quase a totalidade das fotografias tiradas pelo fotógrafo ao município, organizadas e preservadas segundo as normas legais.
As fotografias de António Passaporte refletem a sensibilidade, o perfeccionismo, as técnicas pessoais de fotografar, o modo pessoal de ver a linha da Costa ribeirinha, as vivências das freguesias do município, mas também as influências familiares, a época em que viveu, as encomendas e a promoção turística do país.
Neste trabalho procuraremos legitimar o porquê das fotografias de António Passaporte se encontrarem no Serviço de Arquivo Municipal de Oeiras e ao mesmo tempo percebermos o que interessava a António Passaporte fotografar, o porquê e o como, o que deixou registado e o seu contributo na preservação da memória de lugares do nosso país.
Releva-se neste estudo a importância dos Arquivos Municipais para a preservação deste tipo de documentos, para a sua divulgação e concomitantemente para a preservação da memória e identidade de um município.
Antes de chegarem a este Arquivo e mesmo antes da existência do Núcleo Fotográfico no município de Oeiras, a Câmara tinha já compilado e analisado as fotografias existentes sobre o município e que estavam na sua posse por doações feitas por familiares, iniciando um processo de seleção e de avaliação, escolhendo aquelas que deveriam ser preservadas permanentemente porque eram / são socialmente relevantes para o município.
Reforça-se aqui o trabalho minucioso e preocupado por parte do Serviço de Arquivo na salvaguarda, valorização e divulgação deste material que é parte da memória social, representativa da construção da identidade coletiva.
The present Masters dissertation, an integral part of a Masters course in Patrimonial Studies, is in accordance with investigations of the Documental Heritage of Photography. Based on the specific study of the photographical archive of António Passaporte (1901-1983) that is part of the Municipal Archive Services of Oeiras, the aim is to demonstrate the relevance of the photograph as a document and a builder of memory(ies) and identities. António Passaporte was born in Portugal, and lived in Africa and Spain, having returned to Portugal for good in the Thirties of the XX century, where he dedicated his life to photographing our country and printing postcards, and it is the photographs by António Passaporte of the Municipality of Oeiras that constitute the object of our study. In the Archive Department of the Municipality of Oeiras one can find the vast majority of the photographs of the Municipality taken by the photographer, organized and preserved in accordance with the legal norms. António Passaporte's photographs reflect the sensitivity, perfectionism and the personal techniques in photographing, his personal way of viewing the coastline, the life of the various neighborhoods of the Municipality, but also family influences, the epoch he lived in, and the orders he got for the promotion of tourism. With this paper we will attempt to legitimize the reason why António Passaporte's photographs can be found at the Archive Department of the Municipality of Oeiras, as well as understanding what António Passaporte found interesting to photograph, the why and the how, what he left in his register and his contribution in the preservation of the memory of places in our country. This study underlines the importance of the Archive Department in the preservation of this kind of documents, their dissemination and at the same time the preservation of the memory and identity of a Municipality. Before they arrived at this archive and even before the existence of the Photographical Nucleus of the Municipality of Oeiras, the Council had already compiled and analyzed the existing photographs of the municipality in their possession obtained through donations from family members, and began a process of selection and evaluation, choosing those that should be permanently preserved due to being socially relevant to the Municipality. The painstaking dedicated work of the Archive Service in the care, valorization and promulgation of this material that is part of the social memory and represents the construction of a collective identity must be recognized.
