Este artigo discute a autonomia do exercício do poder concelhio nas cidades e vilas portuguesas, sob jurisdição senhorial, em finais da Idade Média. Uma vez que as fontes até ao momento encontradas são muito lacónicas, aborda-se o tema de forma indireta, tentando responder à questão: até que ponto esse domínio condiciona a comunicação política estabelecida entre os centros urbanos dos senhores e a coroa? A análise centra-se, especifcamente, em cidades e vilas da Casa de Bragança, através da exploração de documentos relativos às cortes de Lisboa de 1498.
This article discusses the autonomy of the exercise of municipal power in Portuguese cities and towns, under the jurisdiction of the Lords, in the late Middle Ages. Since the sources found so far have great gaps, the issue is addressed indirectly, trying to answer the question: to what extent does this domain deter the political communication established between the urban centres and the crown? The analysis focuses specifically on the cities and towns of Casa de Bragança, through the investigation of documents relating to the Lisbon parliament of 1498.
