Abstract(s)
acesso a um emprego que lhes garanta um bom salário e promoção social;
We live in a constantly changing world, where education has been playing an important role for the development of countries. This work intended to make a brief review of the evolution of the Angolan higher education and its quality analysis. In the empirical part, we investigated the reasons given by Angolan students for undertaking their training abroad, what perceptions they have about Angolan higher education and what expectations they have for when they finish their training. This study is divided into four chapters and follows a qualitative methodological approach, based on the application of a semi-structured interview to a convenience sample. The Angolan students interviewed chose Portugal to study in for historical reasons, for the language and because they have a support network, made up of family and friends; they consider that studying abroad can guarantee them power, prestige and advantages to accessing a job that guarantees them a good salary and social advancement; they consider that Angolan higher education has many gaps, with regards to the pedagogical and scientific quality of its teachers; infrastructure (few laboratories and inadequately equipped, uncomfortable rooms). They refer that the need to allocate scarce economic resources is the reason why government policies are not really being implemented and highlight the need for a stronger focus on Education so that the quality of Angolan Education, in general, can be achieved; be equated with European countries. Some of the students interviewed do not intend to return after their training, as they believe that they would no longer get used to the way of life in Angola, nor to the social difficulties and lack of infrastructures in the country and insecurity.
