| dc.description.abstract | Deus é uma personagem importante (e omnipresente) na obra de Saramago. Mas será apenas uma figura de ficção? Mesmo afirmando-se não crente, José Saramago reconhece-se como um produto do cristianismo e tem consciência de que milhares de seres humanos acreditam em Deus, ou no transcendente. A sua luta, portanto não é com Deus — que para ele não existe —, mas com os intermediários de Deus: as religiões e os líderes religiosos. Todavia, como ele gostaria que Deus existisse e interviesse, indignado, para confrontar o ser humano — que já perdeu essa capacidade de indignação – com a própria ideia de humanidade! A esse ponto nos provoca o Nobel português. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | God is an important (and omnipresent) character in Saramago’s work. But is it just a fictional figure? Even claiming to be a non-believer, José Saramago recognizes himself as a product of Christianity and is aware that thousands of human beings believe in God, or in the transcendent. His struggle, therefore, is not with God — who for him does not exist — but with God’s intermediaries: religions and religious leaders. However, how he would like God to exist and intervene, disgusted, to confront the human being — who has already lost this capacity for indignation — with the very idea of humanity!
