This article examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on entrepreneurship, with a focus on the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), an outermost region (OR) of the European Union (EU). The question starts: how does AI contribute to the innovation, competitiveness and resilience of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem? A qualitative methodology is adopted based on a narrative review of recent scientific literature (2018-2024), complemented by the analysis of regional and European strategic documents. The results suggest that the integration of AI can enhance efficiency gains, promote more sustainable entrepreneurship practices, and support the digital transition of the local economy. However, the process strongly depends on the articulation between public policies, educational institutions, and local agents, creating structural conditions for an inclusive and sustainable adoption of AI. It is concluded that the development of structural conditions is crucial to ensure an inclusive and sustainable adoption in the entrepreneurial context of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
