As bibliotecas escolares nos Açores : perceções e expetativas dos professores bibliotecários

| dc.description.abstract | Esta investigação visa contribuir para o conhecimento da implementação e estado atual das Bibliotecas Escolares (BE) na região autónoma dos Açores, desde a primeira década do século XX até à atualidade. Pretende-se adquirir um melhor conhecimento do que estas têm vindo a desempenhar gradualmente ao longo dos anos, até aos dias de hoje, em que parecem assumir um legítimo espaço próprio, no importante papel da promoção do sucesso educativo que, infelizmente, se mantém como uma fragilidade na região. Portugal destaca-se, no contexto da União Europeia, como um país com taxas de escolaridade muito baixas e os Açores, comparados com a média nacional, apresentam taxas de escolaridade muito baixas no contexto nacional, o que torna estas particularmente baixas no contexto europeu. No caso açoriano torna-se de crucial importância saber como é que as atuais BE podem alterar este cenário de insucesso escolar e tentar compreender os “percursos do passado” (Nóvoa, 1993) no que diz respeito a esta temática emergente na região da Rede Regional de Bibliotecas Escolares (RRBE). É também nosso objetivo, com este estudo, compreender o valor que as BE têm para os seus coordenadores, e as percepções que estes têm das BE como espaços promotores de mudança e de sucesso escolar. Este trabalho tem características de um estudo exploratório, já que procede ao reconhecimento de uma dada realidade pouco ou deficientemente estudada e tenta levantar hipóteses de entendimento dessa realidade. Julgamos não existir até à data nenhum trabalho de investigação neste domínio e, se corremos o risco de tentar dar um entendimento geral de um fenómeno pouco ou nada abordado, esta investigação irá permitir desbravar terreno, como as “arroteias” que por estas terras se fizeram no século XV, deixando “adubo” para futuros investigadores. Para esta investigação adotámos uma abordagem mista: a) cariz quantitativo, com o recurso a inquéritos por questionário aos trinta e oito coordenadores de BE dos Açores, e b) cariz qualitativo, uma vez que recorremos a vários inquéritos por entrevista a um antigo coordenador de uma BE, ao ex-secretário Regional da Educação dos Açores, a duas técnicas superiores do Plano Regional de Leitura (PRL), e diretamente envolvidas na implementação da Rede Regional de Bibliotecas Escolares (RRBE), e à própria Coordenadora da RRBE. Os resultados deste estudo parecem indicar-nos que os agentes de educação envolvidos nas BE dos Açores reconhecem a importância destas, não deixando de apontar várias vertentes que deverão ser melhoradas ou corrigidas para que a sua missão possa ser alcançada com outra eficiência que a realidade açoriana exige. Constatámos ainda que os orgãos responsáveis pela sua gestão e organização estão conscientes de que existe à sua frente um longo caminho a fazer, para se concretizarem os objetivos que procuram para as suas BE, de modo a que a aprendizagem dos alunos seja efetivamente melhorada, que é, no fundo, a grande missão destes centros do conhecimento. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This research aims to contribute to the knowledge of the implementation and current state of School Libraries (SL) in the autonomous region of the Azores, from the first decade of the twentieth century to the present day. It is intended to acquire a better knowledge of how they have gradually developed over the years up to this day. They seem to ensure a legitimate space of their own in the important role of promoting educational success, which unfortunately remains as fragility in the region. Portugal stands out in the context of the European Union as a country with very low rates of education and the Azores, compared to the national average, have much lower rates of education in the national context, which makes them particularly low in the European one. From the Azorean point of view, it is of crucial importance to know how the current SL can change this scenario of school failure and try to understand the "paths of the past" (Nóvoa, 1993) regarding this emerging issue in the Azorean Regional School Libraries Network (RRBE). It is also our goal, through this study, to understand the value that School Libraries have for their coordinators, and their perceptions of SL as means to promote change and school success. This work has the characteristics of an exploratory study, since it proceeds to the recognition of a given reality poorly studied and tries to raise hypotheses of understanding it. We believe that there has been no research work in this field to date and, if we risk trying to give a general understanding of a phenomenon that is rarely approached, this research might allow us to break ground, such as new farming land, the "arroteias" in the fifteenth century, leaving the "fertilizer" for future researchers. For this research we adopted a mixed approach: a) of quantitative nature, with the use of questionnaires to the thirty-eight coordinators of the School Libraries of the Azores, and b) through a qualitative method, since we made several interviews, to the former director of a School Library, the former Regional Secretary for Education of the Azores, and two senior technicians of the Regional Reading Plan (PRL), directly involved in the implementation of the Regional School Libraries Network (RRBE), and to the RRBE coordinator. The results of this study seem to indicate that the education agents involved in the School Libraries of the Azores recognize the importance of the latter noting several v aspects that should be improved or corrected so that their mission can be achieved with efficiency that reality requires. We also noted that the responsible agents for their management and organization are aware that there is a long way ahead of them to achieve the goals they are seeking for so that the students' learning is effectively improved, which is, at the bottom line, the great mission of these knowledge centers. | pt_PT |
