Abstract(s)

The first mention of polished stone tools from Bom Santo Cave is due to K. Lillios (2000), who has included this assemblage in a regional study alongside artefacts from other Neolithic and Chalcolithic sites in Estremadura. However, in this chapter we will not use the data published by this author given the inaccuracy according to which the petrography of most artefacts from Bom Santo was determined. This chapter aims to provide a techno-typological description of the 21 polished stone tools recovered at the site—including their chronologic and cultural integration through comparisons with other dated contexts—and to point to probable geologic areas of acquisition of the raw materials used to produce them.
