Abstract(s)
inexistentes no ensino superior.
principais:
- Averiguar as dinâmicas internas geradas pelo Programa Eco-Escolas numa
escola de ensino secundário;
Despite the growing concern about environmental issues, whether at international or national level, its influence on the adoption of environmentally correct behaviors and attitudes has been meaningless. Despite recommendations for the school to get involved in the promotion of an “Education for Sustainable Development”, the results of several recent studies show that the projects directed to this type of education are concentrated in the early stages of education, reducing significantly in secondary education and becoming virtually non-existent in higher education. Taking this into consideration, this research had as main objectives: - Check the internal dynamics generated by the Eco-Schools Program in a school of secondary education; - Inquire about obstacles, that came out, or not, during the implementation of the Eco-Schools Program, by the specific dynamics of a secondary school. In order to achieve these objectives we analysed the Annual Activities Plans of Vila Verde Secondary School for the academic years 2006/07-2007/08 and the years to implement the Program, 2008/09, we interviewed some members of school, three students, two teachers, the Principal and an non-teaching employee and proceeded to a direct and participant observation. The results revealed some dynamics generated by the Program at school: some changes in behavior and attitudes towards “Sustainability”, such as separation of solid waste, but far short of expectations. Situations such as the existence of national exams, the degree of requirement of the syllabus and the excessive workload, hinder the full realization of the objectives of the program due to lack of students and teachers participation in activities related to the Program. However, the results suggest that even in this context, programs such as Eco-Schools Program can contribute to an “Education for Sustainable Development”, even in a school of secondary education, because during the school year we was observed a growing change in behavior.
