Além de permitir a fruição estética, significa também uma oportunidade para pensarmos e refletirmos sobre o real. Sob o ponto de vista educativo, assume-se como
fonte relevante para desenvolver capacidades críticas, estéticas e criativas, além de
contribuir para a aquisição de conhecimentos e competências curriculares e vitais.
Sob um prisma social, contribui para a discussão de perspetivas, ideais e comportamentos, alimentando a pertença ou a diferenciação entre indivíduos, grupos e
comunidades. Assim, o cinema mostra-se como um ator e agente incontornável nas
negociações entre o homem e o seu mundo, permitindo diálogos, expressões e experimentações da realidade que alimentam o progresso, a mudança e a reflexão sobre
quem somos, de onde vimos e para onde vamos.
