O tema central deste artigo incide nas representações de mulheres videoartistas do seu corpo racializado e objeto de violência, que transformam as mulheres em não-sujeitos, mas também nas figurações da sua identidade e autodeterminação, centradas em narrativas de resistência autorreflexivas, no sentido da criação de si mesmas como sujeitos. Tendo como estudo de caso as peças de vídeo: «Free, white and 21» de Howardeena Pindell (EUA, 1980), «Absolute exotic» de Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen (Dinamarca, 2005), e «Insularidade» de Jacira da Conceição (Portugal, 2023), pudemos observar que a videoarte de mulheres é um fenómeno dinâmico que se articulou tanto com os movimentos feministas da Segunda Vaga como se ligou aos da Terceira Vaga, tal como os feminismos negros e chicanos, enquadrados pelo movimento de individualização e pelas transformações sociais mais amplas.
The central theme in this article focuses on women video artists’ representations of their racialised bodies and objects of violence, which turn women into non-subjects, but also on figurations of their identity and self-determination, centred on self-reflexive narratives of resistance, towards the creation of themselves as subjects. The case study is the video pieces: Free, white and 21 by Howar-deena Pindell (USA, 1980); Absolute exotic by Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen (Denmark, 2005), and Insularity by Jacira da Conceição (Portugal, 2023); we were able to observe that women’s video art is a dynamic phenomenon that was articulated both with the feminist movements of the Second Wave and with those of the Third Wave, like black and chicano feminisms, framed by the individualisation movement and broader social transformations.
