Abstract(s)

As ontologias, ao representarem um domínio específico de interesse, podem contribuir para a obtenção de novos conhecimentos sobre dados históricos. A partir de elementos disponíveis numa base de dados prosopográfica, identificaram-se e classificaram-se relacionamentos entre as ocupações e o estatuto social de diversos indivíduos (sobretudo de membros do Santo Ofício - século XVI ao século XVIII). A partir desta base de conhecimento, construiu-se uma ontologia, utilizando o software Protégé. O objetivo deste trabalho é a descrição da construção da ontologia desde a determinação dos recursos utilizados até às metodologias aplicadas.

Representing a specific domain of interest, ontologies can contribute to obtaining new knowledge about historical data. From an available prosopographical database, relationships between occupations and the status of various individuals (in general Holy Office members of the 16th-18th centuries) were identified and classified. Based on this knowledge an ontology was built using the Protégé software. The goal of this article is the description of how this ontology was built, from the resources that were used to the methodologies applied.
