Abstract(s)
The constant need for adaptation, consequence of the technological advances that are presented every day, forces today's society to rethink its structures and strategies in all sectors, in a quick and effective way. In this sense, education cannot avoid making changes to adapt to this scenario. Online education is increasingly taking more space and prominence in society, becoming an essential tool for learning. Considering the acquisition of skills mediated by technology and digital certifications through Badges, the objective of this investigation is to conduct a study on the main initiatives that already exist in the European Union (EU) for the implantation of digital credentials and, based on the experiences and results obtained through these, propose the adoption of a structural model for the implementation of this type of digital certification at the Lisbon Open University (Universidade Aberta de Lisboa – UAb). In order to make the adoption of this digital certification viable, it is essential to consider that the description of digital credentials must use standardized criteria of recognized quality, in line with the policies and guidelines of the European Commission. In addition, the proposed solution must aim at the credential's interoperability with EU member countries, overcoming the challenges involved in managing, verifying, and sharing Badges.
