Heterossexismo em obstetrícia: a (in)visibilidade de famílias 'não' normativas por profissionais de saúde

São notórios os avanços que se sentem socialmente na promoção da equidade e
igualdade de oportunidades para a constituição e reconhecimento das famílias plurais, no
entanto “Será que através da perpetuação do heterossexismo, nos cuidados de saúde em
obstetrícia, as famílias não normativas são consideradas por profissionais de saúde na sua
prática?”.
Para responder à pergunta de investigação, recorreu-se a um estudo exploratório
quantitativo (com análise estatística High Level), complementado por três entrevistas
semiestruturadas para uma melhor compreensão do fenómeno. Obtiveram-se 458 respostas
ao inquérito por questionário de profissionais de saúde (médicos/as e enfermeiros/as de
várias especialidades) que prestam cuidados de saúde a mulheres.
Os resultados obtidos (ainda que em número insuficiente para inferir o fenómeno de
um modo global) mostram que a maioria dos/as inquiridos/as não considera depreender
sobre a orientação sexual das mulheres de quem cuida, acreditando que não há discriminação
nos cuidados de saúde em obstetrícia, apesar de raramente a mesma ser
questionada às mulheres. Assim, as famílias não normativas continuam a permanecer na
invisibilidade na maioria dos ambientes de cuidados.
A desconstrução do heterossexismo é, assim, essencial para a visibilidade de formas
familiares plurais nos cuidados de saúde em obstetrícia, bem como para a luta contra a
discriminação de género e para a equidade em saúde.
The advances felt socially in the promotion of equity and equal opportunities for the creation and recognition of plural families are notorious, however "Are non-normative families considered by health professionals in their practice through the perpetuation of heterosexism in obstetric health care?". To answer the research question is used a quantitative exploratory study (with High Level statistical analysis) complemented by three semi-structured interviews for a better understanding of the phenomenon. 458 answers were obtained to the questionnaire survey from health professionals (doctors and nurses of various specialties) who provide health care to women. The results obtained (although insufficient in number to infer the phenomenon in a global way) show that most participants do not consider to deduce the sexual orientation of the women they care for, believing that there is no discrimination in midwifery health care, although it is rarely questioned to women. In this way non-normative families continue to remain invisible in most care settings. The deconstruction of heterosexism is thus essential for the visibility of plural family forms in midwifery health care, as well as for the fight against gender discrimination and for equity in health.
