A presente investigação procura compreender como decorre o processo de integração de jovens refugiados sírios que vivem em Gaziantep, uma cidade turca a 120km da fronteira com a Síria.
Inserida na área de estudos sobre refugiados e migrações forçadas, é através do recurso às histórias de vida de três jovens que se partilha a experiência de quem viveu em primeira mão este fenómeno, jovens que foram
forçados a deixar a sua cidade na Síria, Alepo, entre os anos de 2013 e 2015, e a construir uma nova vida em Gaziantep.
Este trabalho envolveu a escuta de narrativas, memórias, e uma disponibilidade por parte dos jovens em relembrar e contar as suas histórias com todas as experiências, dificuldades e sofrimento associados, na sua infância, ao longo do trajeto e durante o processo de integração em Gaziantep.
Ao expor o percurso de vida dos jovens desde a sua infância na Síria ao presente momento, é possível conhecer o contexto migratório dos refugiados sírios na Turquia, a sua realidade social, cultural e económica, verificando se as políticas de integração existentes se adequam às necessidades deste grupo.
Fatores como a aprendizagem da língua turca, a continuação do percurso escolar, ter condições laborais dignas e a não-discriminação revelaram-se essenciais para uma integração de sucesso dos jovens na cidade.
This research seeks to understand how the integration process takes place for young Syrian refugees living in Gaziantep, a Turkish city 120km from the Syrian border. As part of the field of refugee and forced migration studies, it uses the life stories of three young people to share the experience of those who have lived through this phenomenon first-hand, young people who were forced to leave their city in Syria, Aleppo, between 2013 and 2015 and build a new life in Gaziantep. This work involved listening to narratives, memories, and a willingness on the part of the youth to recall and tell their stories with all the associated experiences, difficulties, and suffering, in their childhood, throughout the journey and during the integration process in Gaziantep. By explaining the young people’s lives from their childhood in Syria to the present day, it is possible to understand the migratory context of Syrian refugees in Turkey, their social, cultural, and economic reality, and to see whether existing integration policies are suited to the needs of this group. Factors such as learning the Turkish language, continuing school, decent work conditions and non-iscrimination proved to be essential for the successful integration of the young people in the city.
