As peças de mobiliário egípcio são, em regra, muito elegantes e requintadas, mas a nossa atenção não deve, porém, ser conferida apenas ao seu lado estético-simbólico. Aquilo que pretendemos neste texto é justamente estender o olhar para a vertente técnica: que métodos, que ferramentas, que processos foram empregues para a sua elaboração e que dimensões práticas cumpriam, quer em contexto do quotidiano, quer em contexto funerário.

There are three aspects fundamental to our perception of the pieces of Egyptian furniture: the scarcity of good quality native wood, the technical skill of the Egyptian artisans and the weather conditions, favorable to the preservation of the produced artifacts. The pieces of Egyptian furniture are, generally, very elegant and refined, but we shouldn’t focus solely on their aesthetic and symbolism. With this text, we intend to widen our view of these pieces to the technical aspects: what methods, tools and processes were used in their making and what practical dimensions did they have, either in the quotidian life and in the funerary context.
